Somewhat Daily: Jan. 19, 2022

I generally make marks on something every day, but I'm really TRYING to do it purposefully in one single journal at a time. Here is a successful attempt from that particular day. I also have super ADHD, which means I pretty much never go up to my actual studio and only use what's out on my desk, because out-of-sight-out-of-mind.

I love your art and would like to discuss motivating factors behind it. If not, "It's all good", as they say.

@DaveyDo Thanks, I like how this one turned out too. I don't mind answering. I'm 54 and starting to feel the mortal coil, as they say. The realization that I'm never going to get younger, hotter, faster or anything else good that ends in -er is on my mind more often than ever before. While I hope I'm still a long way from the end, I fully accept (as an atheist) that this one run is all we get. I wouldn't change anything, my life has been significantly more pluses than minuses, but do occasionally wish I could be the best version of me that WAS possible, if I also still had youth on my side.

@TDoughty Thanks for responding and for the little bio, Tonya. There's so much that could be said about it but leave that to world & time. One reason that I wanted to communicate with you is due to your style and subject. I've kept drawing journals for over forty years, so there's a lot of autobiographical art there. Yours too, is the same in essence with our art styles also being similar. I'm not sure if you are the so-called "better" artist due to talent or gender, but I truly enjoy both the image and narrative. Yours are bright and beautiful with interesting characters and just enough narrative to give the viewer an idea of what's going on in your life. The narratives, I'm reasonably sure, can trigger memories when viewed by your temporal progeny. Like I said, I really like your work and would enjoy continued communication and feel a sort of kindredship with you.

A thought on the trying to drown your demons... Joseph Campbell said, "Mystics swim in the waters where others drown". The demons will always be there, but we will continue to swim because our art will buoy us through.
