The Question

Bic4 Ballpoint Pen, Sanrio Novelty 10 Colour Ballpoint Pen on Archival 8.5" x 11" paper. Inspired by Charles Dana Gibson’s “Woman: The Eternal Question” (supposedly a drawing of his muse Evelyn Nesbit). I’ve always loved Gibson’s loose, graphical penwork. Working hard to be more ‘loose’ with my pen drawings. Model: Meadhbh (Maeve)

Amazing!

Oh my word... This is going in my reference folder... o.O

And I have to ask, was this really done with a hello kitty pen with the different color spring levers? I bought one of those years ago at an airport gift store and I can tell you mine never produced anything nearly this cool...

Love this....I really like the overlay of colors. Thanks for showing the stages of your drawing. That's very helpful. I like the looseness of the drawing (gives it a lot of "energy"), especially in the hair.

@DoisPontoseMeio Thank you!

@himitsu Yes, I have lots of character pens - from Hello Kitty to Gudetama to generic no-name characters. These pens are the only ones that I can find that have yellow ballpoint ink that isn't gel or marker. They're a more subtle yellow than the ones Micron makes. I use these pens only for the yellow - I prefer the colour tonality of the Bic4 pens as they aren't as harsh. I just wish that Bic made yellow ballpoint pens.

@Ilga Thanks! Strangely enough, most of my ballpoint pen drawings consist only of 3 colour layers - red, green and yellow. I sometimes throw a little blue to cool down the shadow areas, but very rarely do I use black. Using black tends to 'flatten' the volume of the forms whereas layering red, green and yellow produces a much richer, muddy dark brown.
