Recently, I've been experimenting on how dreams are formed and drawing. Raw doodling is a form of this, done without thought, but I tried a different way that hints at "surrealist automatism." However, surrealist automatism can become too controlled in itself at times. I needed to make sure that wouldn't happen and that the imagery would be random and form the same way a dream would. The only way I could do this was with random shading, which would then be built up until shapes took form. It meant that the artwork itself took alot longer to do, but the results are quite good.
(2B pencil on 130mm x 90mm paper) I've never watched Peaky Blinders, but whilst doing some casual sketching, I came up with this orc character and so called it "Freaky Blinder" due to its flat cap and cigarette.
