Rossana Duran Hello, my name is Rossana Duran,
and I'm a doodle addict.
Portugal

I have always enjoyed drawing, but there was a time in my life when I would feel worried whenever I started an art project. In my mind, I had the perfect vision of how the projects should look like. But in the end, and also during the creation process, they were not exactly like that vision of mine. That would put pressure on me and I felt frustrated. I believe the creation process should provide the feeling of enjoyment and freedom, not pressure or frustration. Recently, I decided to challenge this need for control and just draw, just enjoy the process. Now, I feel free.

For some reason, this is one of my favorite works. It's a total fluke, doodle on a spare piece of watercolour paper, totally unplanned

Facade

"Facade" depicts the duality between constructed appearance and natural image. The old woman manifests societal idealization of beauty within her headpiece, burdened by the intricacy. Aesthetically pleasing symbols around her echo the notions of her manifested identity. This facade subconsciously contributes to continuing superficial values.

The finished piece is 24 x 32 inches on 300lb. hot-pressed watercolor paper ~painted with watercolor and ink. There were a lot of components I wanted to incorporate in this piece. Then, the painting kept "going". It moved of its own accord in places I did not anticipate, and I kept going with it....people that I know/have known intertwined in my mind as I painted the tree branches. Overall, the painting took on so many meanings to me as it matured
