This quote from Voltaire rings true, no doubt about that! “Those who can make you believe absurdities can make you commit atrocities.” - Voltaire.

This week’s been an interesting one for socialising in my world, no denying it. If I’m not getting acquainted with new folks at work or at my art clubs, it’s reconnecting with people I haven’t seen in 20+ years… certainly informed today’s piece, without a doubt!

Wanhoop

Wanhoop (Eng: despair) is a work I made last August/September. It's clay which was baked and afterwards painted with acryl and coated with some transparant nailpolish. To me it symbolises the depth of my depression. Despair.

Weekend Wars

Starring MGMT: Weekend Wars (2007). Let me tell you a story about reading about wars and craving for a future in peace. About the Beatles singing about a revolution to change the world. About people being too occupied with their own lives to "paint or write or try to make a change". Tricolor linoprint using one lino plate. August, 2020.

More of Amar and Augustine because I wanted to. Outfit are loosely based on the Norwegian bunad because Augustine’s creator is Norwegian.

The AAAS

Original characters for a story which might never see the day of light. Amar and Aska belongs to me, Augustine and Sayeed belongs to my Hubby. We call them the Ass quartet or The triple As A-S. Augustine would be the main character, Amar her foil/lancer, and Aska and Sayeed would be supporting characters. I'm still practising communicating though character and setting design, so I will probably re-design them about 100 times more before they will ever be done.

Augustine

Water heals and purifies. It also kills and destroys. Few symbols encompass both the life-giving and death-dealing properties of water as the sacrament of baptism, which represents both the passing of the old self and their rebirth as a new creature (Romans 6:3-11). Here, the image of death & rebirth is also reinforced by a dragonfly motif; the dragonfly spends the first years of its life in the deep waters as a nymph, and is completely transformed into a new being as it rises to the surface. Unlike butterflies, a dragonfly undergoes several molting processes after its emergence, showing that, while the creature is already made new, it is not yet perfected, and must grow in its new identity through what is called progressive sanctification. The work's title refers to the Christian daimyo, Konishi Yukinaga, whose baptismal name is Augustine, and is the primary subject of this image.

Girl Wearing A Lovely Black Shirt

OnAugust 27, 2017, this photo was taken by accident at a hair salon. I was fortunate to win first place in the “Portrait Art” contest at the beginning of 2017 and was well-liked by young people. This photo was taken by me and kept in my album collection. This is a piece of art that I created with my Android phone, the Samsung Galaxy A71, and a 64MP Tetracell Samsung ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor. PicsArt Photo Studio software is used to edit photos. The aperture on this sensor is f1.8. Sore wrist makes for slow productivity. This is once again Amar and Augustine. This time in a different setting. When my hubby and I play with these characters we end up sticking them into different settings and situations just to see how they will behave and how their relationship develops under different circumstances.

August 2014

Another pencil drawing from 2014. I had a long break from drawing and painting between 1994 and 2013. The arts teacher of my high school made me feel like shit and i decided to quit painting. At 36 years old I realized I missed it and started again by buying a set of pencils as a birthday gift to myself.

Shopping Spree

Ta-da! Finally done! This was inspired by my annual back to school shopping trip in August with my mom, my siblings, and my grandma. The sign is a bit of a clue to that, the heart is similar for he logo of one of my favorite stores (until they closed last month), and the tan thing in the corner reminds me of the dusty playground we stop at between stores. The hair clip, butterflies, and purple corner (it's really a hair extension) are all from my favorite accessory store. The railing is for the walkway between stores and I don't really have to explain the shirt, skirt, pants, and shopping bag. No trip is complete without a bucket of pretzels to eat on the way home! Anyway, I hope you like my art!
