Here it is! The 4th Glorious Mystery: The Assumption of Our Blessed Mama, Body and Soul, into Heaven. I studied some icons on the dormition of our lady in order to get some ideas for this one. In the Icons Jesus is holding the Soul of Our Lady. Just as she bore him and held Him as a child so now Jesus holds her and brings her into heaven. Then you can see her assumed body above. Oh and according to ancient tradition all the apostles were brought together for this event. "Henceforth all generations will call me blessed; for he who is mighty has done great things for me" (Lk 1:48-49). "The Most Blessed Virgin Mary, when the course of her earthly life was completed, was taken up body and soul into the glory of heaven, where she already shares in the glory of her Son's Resurrection, anticipating the resurrection of all members of his Body" (CCC, 974). The First Glorious Mystery: The Resurrection! While Jesus' body was entombed he descended into the Underworld in order to free and bring to heaven all the righteous that died before Him. Jesus is victorious over death, Robed in Heavenly white, He is surrounded by a mandorla of star-studded light, representing the Glory of God. Christ is shown dramatically pulling Adam, the first man, and Eve from the tomb. Jesus does the work, that is why He is pulling Adam from the tomb by the wrist, and not the hand. Surrounding him are Holy Men and Women of the Old testament and who died before. St. Joseph is also there almost saying to the others "That's my boy! :)" Haha. John the Baptist and King David are present. On the other side we have little Abel next to Eve, Judith with her sword, Esther in royal purple and Ruth. I'd like to include even more but I'll need a much bigger piece of paper or canvas. :P This Icon is also called the "Harrowing of Hades" “Harrow” comes from the Old English word used to describe the ploughing of a field with a cultivator which is dragged roughly over the ground, churning it up. In the icon, Christ is shown with the instrument of His death plunged deep into Hades. Beneath Christ’s feet – which still carry the marks of His crucifixion – lay the gates of Hades, smashed wide open in the shape of the Cross. Christ has trampled death by death. Within the dark underworld are scattered broken chains and locks; Hades is not destroyed – it is still there – but its power to bind people is gone. There are no chains, no locked doors. The Third Sorrowful Mystery: The crowning with thorns. "Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the praetorium, and they gathered the whole battalion before him. And they stripped him and put a scarlet robe upon him, and plaiting a crown of thorns they put it on his head, and put a reed in his right hand. And kneeling before him they mocked him, saying, 'Hail, King of the Jews!"' (Mt 27:27-29). The 2nd Glorious Mystery: The Ascension of Jesus. "So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God" (Mk 16:19). Christ is ascending in glory while blessing his people and holding a scroll which represents fulfillment of the old testament and knowledge, Jesus is the source of all knowledge. This "icon" shows also those who did not actually witness the historical ascenscion (St. Paul) because we are called like them to participate in Christ's acenscion. The group represent the Church focused on Christ. The rainbow is of emerald like the book of revelation describes on His second coming because as the angels say, he will return in the same way. The 2nd Sorrowful Mystery: The Scourging at the Pillar. This was kinda painful to draw. The reality of Man, created originally so innocent, corrupted to the point of hurting a man God. Lord have mercy. 1. Jesus is taken before the High Priest where He is falsely accused, buffeted and insulted. 2. The Jewish leaders take Jesus before Pilate, for only he can impose the death penalty. 3. The robber, Barabbas, is preferred to Jesus. 4. Pilate can “find no cause in Him”, yet to appease the Jews, he orders Jesus to be scourged. 5. The scourge is made of leather thongs to which are attached small sharp bones. 6. Jesus is bound to a pillar and cruelly scourged until His whole body is covered with deep wounds. 7. The Lamb of God offers His suffering for the sins of mankind. 8. Jesus suffers so much in His sacred flesh to satisfy, especially, for sins of the flesh. 9. The prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled: “He was wounded for our iniquities, He was bruised for our sins.” 10. Father, by the merits of Jesus in this painful scourging, have mercy on us and on the whole world. Spiritual Fruit: Purity

It's little Saint Therese! Whenever we get overwhelmed by the troubles of life, let us remember to be little! Yes, little children of God, dependent on the Father and filled with divine love and trust. Sometimes I feel like I can only do the little things with great love because when you suffer from depression (did you know she suffered from it too?) the little things become great heroic acts for you to do! Yet to the outsider, they say, well he is doing nothing. However it's the greatest thing! I must decrease and Christ must increase. I am nothing and God is the one who is All. So when I do my little nothing things but I do them with and in Christ they become resplendent! In the divine will those little things become divine acts that will shine for us in Heaven!
