Another attempt to work on more dynamic posing, I did a series of sketches pushing the pose into something outlandish and a tad pin-uppy for my unnamed Houdini knockoff escape artist. I used a different framework technique than usual to help me along, but I'm noticing now a few errors in the final sketch as per usual :)

Be Hold the Lamb of God Medium: Acrylic on canvas size:11”x12” Date 2019-2020 Artist: Stephen J. Vattimo This illustration is done for a mural portraying the earthly ministry of Jesus the Christ. This is number 8, out of 9 illustraitions. This illustration portrays Jesus after he dies on the cross. Biblical reference : Mark 15 : 33-39 33 At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. 34 And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).[b] 35 When some of those standing near heard this, they said, “Listen, he’s calling Elijah.” 36 Someone ran, filled a sponge with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to take him down,” he said. 37 With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last. 38 The curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. 39 And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, saw how he died,[c] he said, “Surely this man was the Son of God!” In doing my research : I found out that the crown of thorns might have been a cap, than a wreath. I t is my opinion that Mel Gibson’s portrayal of the brutality the Roman soldier inflicted on the body of Jesus, through the beatings and the 39 lashes with the cat of nine tails. This event was never visually captured in arts, until he made his movie The Passion of the Christ. Many don’t know what a cat of nine tales is, Roman style. A cat of nine tails are nine leather strap that are woven together at the handle. Each strap is laced with bone and other sharp objects. With each lash, flesh would be ripped from the victim’s body. Most of the illustration I have seen of the crucifixion of Jesus where quite sterile. They fail to illustrate the brutality. Their image of Jesus looks more like an under wear modal doing a photo shoot fore GQ magazine, Then the savor having the wrath of God being pored on his body for the payment of our sins. In this painting, I am place my viewer in the soldiers shoes, who just witnessed Jesus committing His spirit into God’s hands. Just as the soldier pondered the event he participated in , and looking into the face of Jesus, he proclaims, this man was truly the Son of God. Written by Stephen J. Vattimo 7/20/2020

I know this is simpler and a quicker piece, but this is the drawing for my August journal. I started doing these back in March, with each month's drawing being based off a song. This month is "Golden Slumbers" by the Beatles, July was "Tower of Babel" by Elton John. (The pencil sketch eye I previously posted is indeed now in my journal.)

Throwback to October when CPS was on strike and I had extra time to carve pumpkins. This is one of two I carved, both based off original sketches. I don't own any fancy tools, so I created this using a knife, peeler, zester, and some sandpaper.

So this painting began as a simple project and ended up for sale at a coffee shop. I found out recently it actually sold, making it the first official painting I've sold.

I figured I'd post a progress picture of the Elton John drawing I started 2-ish weeks ago. I'm coloring it based off the album booklet (from 'Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player'), so the colors in the actual picture are a bit more yellow/orange (just in case you were questioning the color choices). This has been a project I really enjoy; it's pretty relaxing.

I initially wanted to draw a mandala but after outlining the big circles, I thought "why not add some texture?" and there you go. Experimenting with different shapes and shades always pays off.

Peppermint Cookie, despite its young age, has already been named "Lead Sailor" of their crew, and they're set off to sail beyond the horizons.

The Third Sorrowful Mystery: The crowning with thorns. "Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the praetorium, and they gathered the whole battalion before him. The 2nd Sorrowful Mystery: The Scourging at the Pillar. This was kinda painful to draw. The reality of Man, created originally so innocent, corrupted to the point of hurting a man God. Lord have mercy. 1. Jesus is taken before the High Priest where He is falsely accused, buffeted and insulted. 2. The Jewish leaders take Jesus before Pilate, for only he can impose the death penalty. 3. The robber, Barabbas, is preferred to Jesus. 4. Pilate can “find no cause in Him”, yet to appease the Jews, he orders Jesus to be scourged. 5. The scourge is made of leather thongs to which are attached small sharp bones. 6. Jesus is bound to a pillar and cruelly scourged until His whole body is covered with deep wounds. 7. The Lamb of God offers His suffering for the sins of mankind. 8. Jesus suffers so much in His sacred flesh to satisfy, especially, for sins of the flesh. 9. The prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled: “He was wounded for our iniquities, He was bruised for our sins.” 10. Father, by the merits of Jesus in this painful scourging, have mercy on us and on the whole world. Spiritual Fruit: Purity

Been practicing on people lately! I've been taking some time off but I back and will try to upload more frequently!!! UwU

The 4th Joyful Mystery, the Presentation of Jesus. I put Joseph up front because he had a very important part not only in the Circumsision of Jesus after 8 days but also the Presentation of Jesus after 40 days. In fact the Fathers are the ones who offer the sacrifice in private (with other jewish priests etc.) in order to "Redeem" the child. Hence one of Saint Joseph's titles: "The Redeemer of the Redeemer". He also has the unique title of the "Savior of the Savior" because in the flight to Egypt after this event Joseph saved Jesus from the hands of Herod. Oh and I got to see the tomb of Saint Simeon! It's in Zadok and we got to see his body, he still had flesh but his beard had fallen out (poor guy, lol). He was a very holy man, I could feel the graces there. ^_^ St. Simeon and St. Anna the Prophetess, pray for us! Squirtle: no more no less. Actually more about it, my lighting is bad, aka the yellow tint. Also color picking is really hard, and i might have to do a bit more outlining to the piece to make it look cohesive. But overall the composition is balanced i think, even if i slacked off with the execution a bit towards the end

I've discovered some great jazz whilst working from home. I guess it's an age thing? Get to middle age and you're bang into jazz. I started off making some free hand lettering which quickly turned into me doodling the names of my favourite musicians. Might develop this into a poster, what do you reckon? Mmmm jazz, nice!

Yesterday, I was drawing during the Metropolitan Opera's daily streaming. My husband, Mike came by and looked dumbfounded. "Samson and Delilah inspired THIS subject matter?" Walked off shaking his head. We have a good laugh!

Omens : Crocodile. The Indians believe that crocodiles make a moaning and sighing noise like a human being in distress to attract their victims. They also have a curious superstition that the creatures shed their famous "tears" over a victim's head after they have devoured the body - and then polish off the head to complete the meal!
