Nautilus 2000 Leagues Under the Sea

This is a pumpkin carving of the infamous Nautilus submarine, owned by the pirate captain Nemo . Who sunk ship that supported war, ramming them with his submarine. In this tale Nemo's ship gets attacked by a monstrous giant squid. I caved this design at the Chadds Ford Historical Society's Great Pumpkin Carve contest and event. This is a live carve event. Artist have no idea what kind of pumpkin they will be given to carve. No knowledge of shape, color, size, or condition. Competitors must create their design with manual hand tools. Cavers have 6 hours to create their master pieces, to be considered to qualify to be judged, to compete for the prize. The size of the average pumpkin is from 200 to 400 pounds, and their wall are about 5 inched thick. It took me 6 hours to carve my pumpkin design. Stephen J. Vattimo 10/18/2021

Pumpkin Pt. 2

Here's the second pumpkin I carved (I did find the sketch, so I posted that in there too). Both carvings were really fun and very time consuming. I'm usually not good with 3D models or sculptures, but carving pumpkins seems to work out.

Terror and Peace Bat and dove

This is a pumpkin design I carved for the 2015 Chads Ford Pa. Historical Society's Great Pumpkin Carve. This years design was a upright dove with out stretched wing, and it's bottom portion becomes an upside down bat with it's wing outstretched . I entitled it Peace And Terror. It represents the two realities most countries around the world are experiencing at this time. This year I thank God for helping me discover the most effective tools and carving method that has finally made me a expert pumpkin carver competitor. I have carved three pumpkin this year, and each one get better then the last. I have been in the past used the hammer and chisel method with wood carving tools. My new tools are clay sculpting tools using the shaving method. This design took me about 7 hour straight to complete . I did not get to chose or see the pumpkin I would be carving until the day of the competition. The carve is a live event, meaning you cannot bring a pre- marked or carved pumpkin to the event. This year I believe there were about 75 pumpkin artist who participated in the event. Written by Stephen J.Vattimo Oct 29, 2015

The Creation Cries Out

This painting was done for my sister. She loves dolphins, and she asked me when I would paint a picture for her. When I considered doing this painting, I thought about how I could design an illustration that would use the names of fish to teach her the attributes of Jesus being the Son of God and Savior of the world. The names of the fish who reveal something about Jesus’s attributes are labeled in red, just as in a red-letter edition Bible, the words spoken by Jesus are printed in red. The names of the fish whose labels are blue are different breeds of angelfish. Three dolphins represent the trinity of God—the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit. The silhouette of the three men on crosses represent the price Jesus paid on the cross to buy man out of slavery of sin and deliver man from being cast into the eternal lake of fire. The black-and-white fish is called a sheep head. John the Baptist called Jesus the lamb of God, who would take away the sins of the world. The reddish-orange fish is called a flaming angel. John said that he baptized people with water to call themselves back to God and to repent for their sins. He said that Jesus would baptize with fire the person called the Holy Spirit. The gold-yellow fish is called the shepherd angel. In the Bible, Jesus is referred to be the Good Shepherd because He takes care of His followers as a sheep herder would take care His sheep. He provides for their needs and protects them from danger. The brown fish with the fanned-out fins is called a lionfish. The Bible call Jesus the lion of Judea. Jesus first came to the Earth to deliver mankind from sin by offering His life to pay for our sin. The second time He comes, He will come to set up His earthly kingdom and rule over all the nations for a thousand years. The small fish with a scarlet head is called a king demoiselle fish. Jesus will have all authority to rule over all the nations given to Him from God the Father. 48 49 SALVATION The large orange fish with the green fins is call a rainbow parrot. The rainbow represents a covenant between man and God. Just as God put a rainbow in the sky once the great flood ended to remind man of God’s promise not to destroy the world by flood again. So, do we have a covenant through the blood of Jesus that if man will accept the terms to be delivered from sin, its eternal punishment, and turn from pursuing a rebellious life toward God, God will give them eternal life. The sleek brown-and-white fish is called a schoolmaster. Jesus spent the last three years of His life teaching about who God is, what heaven is like, what hell is like, what sin is, and how it keeps man separated from God. What is God’s plan to redeem man from sin? He taught how man should live to be pleasing in God’s sight. (October 28, 2017)

I’m gonna start reading more on human proportions and the human anatomy and how to draw it so for today I have some cones from when I was trying to teach my brother how to drive. I first painted the entire cone in two coats of gesso and then afterwords I painted the background first, put on a clear gesso and then a painted on the vines. I was trying to go for a positive space negative space look I do have other cones so I hope to try doing more of this in the future but for today this is what I made. #365daysofart #workinprogress #painting

Eternal Fire

This is a 3D pumpkin I carved at The Phoenixville Pa. Pumpkin Festival, for the experts carver's completion. This was my first time using the clay sculpting tool to carve with. I used the wood carving tool method for about eight years. The use of the clay tool give the carver more control to be able to do more detail . the wood carving method is chiseling away the pumpkin flesh where the clay sculpting tools method you scrape way the flesh. This the second pumpkin carving contest I have participated in in less then 5 day apart. Now that I have found a method and tools that work far better than my old ones, less see if my pumpkin carving skills can catch up to my artistic skills. Written by Stephen J. Vattimo Oct 24,2015
