In an attempt to be much more consistent with my drawing practice (and to tackle my insecurities about showing people my drawings) I am hoping that posting some of my sketches online will help keep me accountable. So day 1 sketch, I managed to find a very cheap used college set of Rotring Rapidograph pens online, when they arrived today I was delighted to see that they had NEVER been used! After a bit of a happy dance I got a couple of the pens assembled and started to figure out how they work. This is a quick sketch on tracing paper not that I was tracing anything I just need to invest in better paper with less tooth to be able to use these pens without having ink flow issues.
New Year Shopping (办年货 bàn nián huò) the Chinese believe that buying new items in the new year symbolises welcoming new things and getting ready for a new start. The traditional shopping list includes meat, vegetables, fruits, candies and nuts are popular items which are later seen on the dinning or coffee table of every Chinese household during the Lunar New Year
These illustrations are part of an ongoing series on anxiety I started in early April 2018, as part of #The100DayProject. I've started a new sketch book (one of many, lol), which I am dedicating to ink drawings only. No pencils, no watercolours, just pen and ink :) I drew this doodle today with a Uniball pen and a light ink wash for the space sky. No reference, totally made up. Mistakes and all! One of many robots on it's green home planet, but this one is different than the others. This one has a soul and it's own will. So the residents of the green planet decided that this robot must be disposed off and they shoot him into space. But he missed the junk planet and hit our little earth.
I started sketching a scene and thought "I'm not that good at drawing trees", so rather than do an entire scene, I thought I'd have a go at a single tree as an exercise. In hindsight I used too thick a pen. Time to break out the 0.1 pens for future sketches.
Part of a huge doodle. Started as a doodle while I talked to a friend on the phone. She was one of those non-stop-don't-interupt-me talkers. I got hours of work done while on the phone. It ended up being purchased by our local public gallery for $4,000 bucks. Not bad! And I may use it in a future children's book.
I can't believe October is already here, and it's startling how fast time is moving. I shouldn't be up this late, but I wanted to make some art, especially given how today has been (8-3:15 'in school,' 3:15-10pm doing homework). The honest answer is I just feel down. I can usually phrase things better but my brain is fried. Everything is non-stop, the time I have to breathe seems to get shorter. Anyway, it's 11pm, I should get to bed.

This started as a purely experimental abstract piece, but evolved to include both abstract and surreal (i.e. representational) elements.
I'm really enjoying the good star wars content that we got lately, from respawn's Jedi: Fallen Order to the mandalorian and the rise of skywalker

May 2019 was a month that I focused on collaging my own handmade paper together to create illustrations. I also started trying out gouache, to mixed results. It's a skill I intend to learn!
My 100 day project has basically switched over from digital drawings to watercolor. This is a spread in my sketchbook from the transition. Took a few days but, I am starting to feel like myself when using the medium again. Just needed to reactivate some muscle memory.
Whew!!! About 50 hours of work split evenly over line work and color. I think it’s finished ( famous last words)! I’ll check on it again in a few days for any final details... and get some good camera shots instead of phone camera. .... but I’m happy!

I'm traveling through England ans Scotland for the next two weeks, and of course that meant I had to start a new travel sketchbook! I found it fitting that the first page shows the route I will be on.
A colorful and dynamic scene depicts a Cosmic Christmas Tree with swirling galaxies and stars against a dark background. The vibrant colors blend together to create an impression of movement and energy in space.
This is a colour pencil artwork based on the likeness of British actress Madeline Smith. She starred in a James Bond film once, and a few Hammer Horror films. Many thanks for looking and hope you like it !
