Iguana

Image Art by @Ilga

There are many reference photos for iguanas on the internet. This drawing relies on three difference reference images. The drawing was done with a micron .005 pen and then coloring added with pencils. He was a lot of fun....I think there may be more iguanas or other lizards and reptiles in my future!

@okat Thanks. I found making all those little scales became hypnotic and relaxing. Goodness knows, we need meditative tasks these days, eh?

I hope that you have the time to make more reptile drawings - this one is spectacular! All of the work that you put in with those scales really shows.

@zom18 Oh my. I had to go look where you lived. I spent a year in Australia in 1980. Your region in that wonderful rainforest has to be one of the most beautiful places on earth. I have tried to grow tree ferns for years. (I live in the south end of Puget Sound on 30 acres. Every half decade, we seem to have a cold snap and no amount of wrapping and protecting seems to work to protect them. Zonal denial gardening. ¶ I have long admired your paintings. They are fabulous, esp. The Daughters of Gaia. I think perhaps Gaia is trying to shake her back now during the pandemic. I wish we could be better stewards, but that seems a bit optimistic.¶ Sorry for the late response, but have been taking a social respire for the past year or so (INCLUDING social media) and just returned to DA yesterday to find messages that I hadn't read.

@tigger I sometimes find that very realistic drawings of spiders and insects make me feel creepy. But I rather like all the details of lizards! I see you are a young artist---keep up practicing and drawing as much as you can---even if it is just a few minutes everyday. the habit is important.

OMG! I'm fairly new here and new to drawing. What I've just seen here is absolutely outstanding. I sit in awe looking at this one piece. I sure hope to get as good as you one day. Those scales must have taken forever, the patience you must have is admirable. I'll certainly be following you as I love Pen & Ink, Pencil and Coloured Pencil. I also love reptiles being a reptile keeper myself. Keep up the fantastic work.

@Bampi Thank you for your kind comments. I read your intro comments about art therapy....and doing tiny details is very meditative and calming for me. I am rarely happier than when I have a pen or pencil or brush in my hand (stylus not so much, I am just learning to work digitally). I returned to drawing fairly recently (since I retired) and am so glad I had this activity to help navigate the pandemic. BTW, this piece is fairly large (about 14 inches or so across), so the details are not as tiny as they look on a screen. Good luck in your drawing adventures.
