Charcoal art is hard for me, how do you keep your lines clean?

@RosieDraws Sounds counter-intuitive, but I draw with really sharp pencils - usually I use a blue Staedtler lead holder with 8B pencil lead (or a mechanical pencil with HB lead). I sharpen them with a circular lead pointer or fine grit sandpaper. For the parts that need to be soft, I lightly cross hatch the area with the sharp pencils and use a blending stick or my finger to smudge or blur. Hope this helps.
