I think you should try out as many things as possible. If you get something useful out of my drawings use it. The original idea of Gestures is not contour lines. Gestures are an abstract flow to illustrate the dynamic of a figure. The lines in my drawing are named like bone orientations, because they reflect more an inner flow. I working currently on "Figure Drawing: Design and Invention (Michael Hampton)", which describes an itterative process where Gestures are the first step. The drawing reflects my simplified summary of Gesture chapter.

You can also check my upload from today, which contains a Gesture line (aka Rhythm line) and boxes which are following that Gesture. Here you can see the volumes/outlines are outside the Gesture line. Maybe it helps to illustrate that Gestures are not meant to be an outline. The Gesture Lines can be inside or outside the volume/outline. It expresses the dynamic of a pose.
@Neuromancer wow thanks! I would say I’m not the best at gestures... I am working on it (not really) but I’m trying. Thanks a lot. I love that people in this extremely small community help eachother grow.

Also maybe I can use this as an outline, fill it in. What do you think. I can try and see if I can create something out of your anatomy drawings?
