Aah!!! Dino bird!! These things scare me, even though they aren't as dangerous as people say. I just don't like big animals! I like how you included the veins on its crest, by the way.
@N0rmanMalfatto As an Aussie I can that yes they are that dangerous because they are VERY territorial, but like most animal related injuries in this country, people get hurt because they were not careful. Cassowaries live in the tip of Queensland where most of our rain forests are so the everyday Australians don't have a lot of interaction with them and it's not the bird that we fear most. At the end of August to the beginning of October, (unless you have been feeding them prior to this), we have magpie season or commonly known as swooping season, when there are magpie eggs and young babies, mum and dad get aggressive.
@BlueRose2001 As an American, my only experience with Australia is watching Bluey (and this guy on YouTube who puts eggnog in cars, among other things), and yeah, I heard about magpies from that show. I once had a magpie land on my head at a zoo while wearing a shiny hat. Anyways, thank you for telling me more! Also I should have guessed you're from Australia based on all the, y'know, Australian birds you paint.
@N0rmanMalfatto Painting eyes on the back of you may not always work if the magpie is feeling aggressive enough. If you ever come to Australia, maybe cone in the spring or autumn when it's not super hot, unless you go to Tasmania, then that's always cold. ALWAYS follow the signs about animals, they're there for a reason. The Buff Breasted Kingfisher and the Cassowary are the only birds I've painted so far that are not local to me. We in a bit of drought at the moment so we're getting a lot of birds on the move through my area in search of water.
This is NOT my artwork, this was given to me as a graduation gift from my brother. This was during the drought so not a lot of us could get a bouquet of flowers, my brother asked our art teacher to do an extra print for me. When I found this in my gift bag I was already emotional and almost cried. This was better than a bouquet of flowers, one of my favourite birds in my favourite medium.
