David Terrill Hello, my name is David Terrill,
and I'm a doodle addict.
Kansas City Plus

David Terrill has been creating compelling illustration for 30 years. His journey from laboring in an Ohio steel mill, working as a freelance illustrator, to wearing many creative hats in design agencies. David's storied path led to his ultimate destination as Associate Professor of Illustration, Kansas City Art Institute, and part-time Creative Director/Director of Talent at C3, a leading family design agency. David enjoys family travels while recording adventures in his sketchbook. On their recent experience in China, they swam in the South China Sea, hiked Great Wall of China (slept in an ancient watchtower), traveled 1,400 miles by train, and resided in a Beijing Hutong. David has been recognized by American Illustration 39, Communication Arts, The Society of Illustrators, Los Angeles, and 3X3, The Magazine for Contemporary Illustration. David has lectured at ICON9, The Illustration Conference's Educational Symposium: Radical Teaching; New Approaches in Pedagogy in Austin, Texas, and at ICON10's Educational Symposium on The Sketchbook, in Detroit, Michigan.

Portrait in Black and White
1/2

Over a year ago, I finished my Robin Williams portrait, and I decided I wanted to create a series of different black and white portraits. So far, this is the happiest I've been with a piece in a while. There's no expectation, there's no real pressure on this, it's me falling in love with painting again. I've only been working on this for a week, so there isn't a ton of progress. I suppose I'll reveal who the person is later once more progress is made but for now, enjoy.

Giving Tuesday

When we help someone there is always something that blooms and grows beyond us. It is an increasingly necessary action in a world that unfortunately is increasingly divided. @givingtuesdaypt challenged me to illustrate its movement inspired by this year's motto "Together we change the world"! This day is celebrated on the first tuesday after BlackFriday, calling on anyone to choose a cause that ressonates with them and give back to them however you can. Thus, a wave of massive generosity is created, which can (and should) extend beyond today! Are there any organizations you want to support? : .

Leonard was my first 'extra cirricular' patron in 1969. I never forget it. So I am posting him first, a recent pen and ink drawing.

A Fine Day on the Porch

had to paint light through trees in watercolor. The pattern on the chair was a pain in the butt, but I think it came out ok. Winsor & Newton professional watercolors on Blick premier cold press 140lb watercolor block. This is the first time I've used Blick Watercolor paper. It held up well, but the painting came out kind of light (not sure if the paper had anything to do with that, though). At any rate, I bought a bunch of it, so I guess that's what I'm using!

May Clouds

I felt like doing something relatively quick with my Copic markers. This is the view from my front door. Not a very scenic neighborhood, but the sky has been beautiful this week.
