Drawing Challenge

Draw Your Fear

It’s officially the spookiest time of year, chock-full of ghouls, goblins, monsters under the bed, and the ever-feared Pumpkin Spice Latte. All jokes aside, we’re challenging all of you artists, designers, fear factor veterans, and scaredy cats to take on your deepest (or most shallow) fears to draw something you’re scared of.

Whether that’s spiders, zombies, heights, confined spaces, or just your dentist - jump right in and illustrate that thing that makes your skin crawl. No fear is too big or small, and whether it be real, imagined, a one-off occasion, or your everyday nightmares we encourage you to doodle it out and share the story of your fear in the caption.

For this piece i wanted to collaborate my top fears into one entity. I really dislike creepy distorted faces, anything with blank hollow eyes and a creepy smile, or large eyes with beady pupils and just a black dark smile with no teeth makes me incredibly uncomfortable however drawing tends to help with the fear i found out, but if its outside my creation they are nightmare fuel. The balloons and dynamite represent my personal phobia called Globophobia or fear of balloons along with Ligyrophobia/Phonophobia, fear of loud sudden noises such as bangs, pops, explosions, etc. fear of loud noises is actually one of the primal fears we have as children unfortunately i never grew out of that fear, I really hate the 4th of July and being in a room full of balloons will put me in a catatonic state of fear and anxiety.

Living like we are doing it now, causes serios danger for us and the planet. I am scared of the consequences, which are already taking place.

I have a fear of being trapped--emotionally, physically, spiritually, etc. It's like being stuck at the bottom of a well and someone just covered the opening with an iron grate!

"Lizard People Eating My Family" - created for the Doodle Addicts 'Draw Your Fear' challenge. I had a lot of fun creating this watercolor sketch featuring one of my greatest childhood fears: lizard people.

Fear Of the dark. the feeling of not being able to see who, what or where. your other senses are heightened so you have no choice but to hear everything around you giving you the only option to sleep to pretend its your imagination.

To realize too late that you've left this life without having ever known why you had ever had any part in it at all- is no doubt a crippling understanding that shall bound you for eternity when you had only wished to finally fly.

Since I was little I have always been terrified of spiders. This drawing is done in the style of a classification/identification chart which is an aesthetic that I enjoy. Viewing the spiders in this way feels less threatening than they feel in real life for me.

Perhaps a weird fear, but ever since I was a kid, I've always been scared of balloons. Especially when I see someone holding one and squeezing it, and the squeaky sound it makes. I think it's the anticipation of a pop.. For this challenge, I had to imagine someone pushing into a balloon, one step towards overcoming my fear, I guess.. ;)

Skeletons and Voids. It's really strange to me the human bone structure. Once as a kid in class one fell on me and it was really heavy and I've been traumatized ever since.

Trypanophobia!!!! I decided to draw my most irrational and even somewhat dangerous fear. i couldn't bring myself to draw the syringes myself - i had to use royalty-free images lol. even with that, this was SO hard to make - i felt sick the whole time i was shading/warping the syringes. although i am very thorough with vaccinations, i can barely handle getting them without passing out! blood tests make me faint, as well as fillings, epi-pens, etc etc. even watching myself get a shot can make me black out. i hope you like it because i hated making it haha!

My worst fear is sleep paralysis. You can open your eyes and scream all you want, but you can't move your body. The roughness in the background shows the chaos you feel during this terrifying experience.

I am ridiculously afraid of zombies. Tho I believe it's because they tend to slowly attack in large overwhelming groups, something that actually happened to me as a child when a large groups of kids cornered me to beat me up.

Hi! My submission is called "A shard of reality". The main inspiration was the insane amount of fears and phobias that exist around the world, and how they warp and twist reality in people's brain... As if they "break" it. So, I came up with a simple phrase to summarize this: "Reality is the glass we look through every day, Fear is the way we break it." I hope you like it!
