Colliding Worlds - When Abstract Meets Surreal

Acrylic on canvas. 50cm x 70cm. This started as a purely experimental abstract piece, but evolved to include both abstract and surreal (i.e. representational) elements.

Cute Character Drawing

Hello! This is a quick drawing I did yesterday. I'm glad it turned out well. I used Copic markers, Microns, white gel pens, Ohuhu markers and highlighters. When I colored it I hoped the colors wouldn't ruin the sketch, I'm happy the finished piece came out good.

Spotlight on Luigi

Finally, Luigi gets to be the star of his own artwork, celebrating his accomplishments (as such). This was a commission that I did for someone who wanted to give a gift to a massive Luigi fan. The client wanted a large figure of Luigi in the center, and other instances of Luigi around the page doing various Luigi-things. Luigi's green missile from Super Smash Bros and his "death stare" from Mario Kart 8 were very specific requests. I also added an illustration of the Sprite from Super Mario Bros. 2, since that is when Luigi first begins to have his own unique character traits. And of course, you've got to have Luigi's Mansion as well. The client didn't know much about Luigi, but that was no problem because I am a huge Nintendo fan and knew exactly what to do. In fact, I would have done even more! It wasn't easy to put it all together but, I think it came out ok. I feel like it finally worked in the very end when, in a last minute move, I totally changed the eyes of the middle Luigi to have that kind of cross-eyed look that you often see in Nintendo's illustrations. That makes the face the focal point and is completely in character, if you ask me. I can probably do commissions for you too, so get in touch if you're interested! Garuda
1/2

Oh boy, markers (NOT a go-to), least favorite color, and a subject that isn’t on my radar. This was a hard one what with 3 negatives going for it. But, hey, it’s a challenge, right? Choosing a subject came first….we have a house full of Indonesian masks and sculptures. (My husband studied gamelon music in Indonesia.) Garuda, the “mount” of Vishnu and popular with Balinese artists seemed a good choice, esp. since he can be green, red, yellow or orange. I rarely choose yellow/orange for anything---artwork, décor, clothing...though I do have a soft spot for sunflowers. First I drew a bunch of images based on one of our wooden Garuda sculptures and then made a simplified marking pen outline and colored it with markers.

Cherry Blossom Themed Character

This is a drawing I did not too long ago, I think the pink and brown were blended nicely together in the piece. I use Copic markers, Microns, gel pens, and Ohuhu markers. I really enjoyed the theme of this character, (cherry blossoms) I think I was able to show the colors nicely together in the artwork.

Matcha Boba Tea Character

I did this drawing a week ago, and it turned out good. I used Copic markers, Microns, white gel pens, and Ohuhu markers. My favorite part is probably the colors, I love it when purple and green are put together, I think those colors go well when they are used in a piece of art.

Egyptian Painting with Grave Belongings

A long time ago In Egypt you would bury the person with some belongings you think they would benefit in their after life. A few interesting objects I chose were from a mobile, baked beans, kitkat, toothpaste, apples, gloves to a paintbrush and more. A fun artwork where egyptian hieroglyphic symbols were used.

Midna

Here's a drawing I did of Midna from Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. I love this game most out of any of the Legend of Zelda games, in the story line, artwork, and music, and thought I'd try my hand at drawing one of my favorite characters, if not most favorite, from it.

Thanos

Here is a fun illustration I made of the Mad Titan himself. I used Clip Studio Paint and my own custom brushes. This was meant to be kind of a dumb, simple drawing, but I think I added too much in the color and detail. Well, it looks cool anyway, I guess. The gems were fun to do, anyway.
