The name for this piece comes from a billboard I noticed as I was heading home from a shopping trip not too long ago, and it’s stuck with me ever since.
Life in lockdown (needless to say) brings with it plenty of time for us all to learn and get creative in whatever way works best..
April 7th is my birthday. The day has been usually a low-key affair, with exceptions here and there over the years. I spent it keeping busy and creative, as is custom most days whenever I'm not out working or socialising. Roll on 27!
Once the curve flattens and we can all go about our usual businesses without potentially killing one another, let’s not forget all the good habits and so on we’ve picked up from staying the feck at home! Some sort of a summer will come, rest assured.
This comic came out of a conversation I’m having with a friend. We both found it fascinating that so many comedians and creatives come from broken and dark places. Robin Williams said, “I think the saddest people always try their hardest to make people happy because they know what it’s like to feel absolutely worthless and they don’t want anyone else to feel like that.”
Been some time since I touched the pencil. It wasn't easy to get back to drawing, since I was also distracted by the internet for some time. Lots of things went through my head, while I was out on a trip. Just drew whatever I felt like drawing, and this came alongside some reflections:
I have been stuck on fixing this character concept for a very long time, trying to box it within a classification. Bird, wyvern, dragon, shadow, whatever- I came to a point today, where I felt that it really doesn't matter anymore. This is that sort of character who can be everything.
I spent the entire afternoon trying to arrange all the little ideas and features, following true to creative intuition. Smashing together many of my previous character designs, this appeared. A masked and unnamed figure (???) with traits from many of my previous works.
An avian / draconic / spiritual shapeshifter has always been something with me all this time, even when I tried to create a sona years back (finding it meaningless). True to its nature, it has few lively features except its eyes and requires a mask to display additional signs of life.
Its clear that this character is basically a symbolic self-expression. It wasn't easy to seperate myself from my introjective tendencies, which easily distorts my concept of this figure (took weeks to untangle). Once the confusions loosen, it reappears with noticeably familiar features.
The scribble above still has some room for rearrangement, just limited by the irreversible nature of pencil drawing. The grey markings were too dark, and the feet might look better staying white. The pale golden underbody markings, were actually a surprise.
A beautiful line drawing depicts a person being hugged by his demons. He should be worried or scared, but he is happy because he accepts them—and they all look happy. The words “hug your demons” are written in a playful font below.
As a dedicated family man, I can confidently say that every day of my life is a testament to my unwavering commitment to providing for my loved ones. I made my investment with the wrong platform and ended up losing both my capital investment and the profits I had made through my trading with them over the few months we had partnered together. It was such a very pathetic experience for me as I have never found myself in a situation so critical as this. I became depressed for months and almost lost my mind facing all these scenarios alone. At some point, I was having some suicidal thoughts, but thanks so much to my therapist, who helped me to set and maintain my healthy boundaries. It was she also advised me to look for a specialist who could help to recover my funds from the scammers. That one piece of advice from her did well for me, as I had gone online in search of help from experts, and I got referred to Fastfund Recovery and their services. I reached out to their contact detail that was provided by individuals testifying about their good work and filed a complaint, I was well responded to and we had a deep conversation on how I lost my money to the fake investment platform, everything seemed so unbelievable while they assured me of getting everything I have lost, I was asked questions on my mode of payment and evidence that shows a transaction occurred between both parties and if any agreement was breached or stated, after all these, just within the next 48hours or thereabouts I got all my lost investment together with my profits back in my wallet, these guys are amazing. Had a thought to revisit one of my old worlds created during the creative streak over years ago. It was a world built from the primordial creative juices in my head, put from uncountable inspirations and knowledge bases learned from who knows forever.
Here is a perspective of how a world is built from the rise of some fundamental ideas. What happens if you consider a world suspended in nigh microgravity conditions, a supercharged atmospheric envelope orbiting a twin neutron star system, gravitational suspension, intense magnetic fields and radiation? A extreme and chaotic environment bordering an impossible miracle, in a constant state of freefall.
Not gonna lie, worldbuilding in detail is not easy. I don't have the mental and time resources these days, to expand a world in such intricate detail. Each of the scribbles above are mostly ideas of local flora and fauna that push the limits of my science knowledge base combined with accumulated general knowledge. Some of the concepts here are bordering magical fantasy, without even getting into the residing intelligent lifeforms.
