Een vertekend beeld?

This is a self-portrait. I didn't use a mirror or a picture here. This is what I look like in my own memories. It's a bit misleading, I think I am skinnier than the drawing suggests, but that doesn't feel like me. I have been overweight for years and I feel like I am too skinny at the moment. I feel like I should be curvier like in the drawing. This is about body-image, body-dysmorphia even. I do have those clothes, glasses and haircut. This work is pastel on paper (it's quite big, but I don't have a measure closeby)

gneural graffiti patterns blackbook doodle

⚡Flash Back Friday⚡ Going back to a blackbook doodle from a few years ago. Why am I showing you this? Because graffiti art is, and has been, one of my greatest influences (aside from M.C. Escher). It is an art form I love, and I gain much inspiration from the graffiti scene (legal and illegal). I don’t really show this side of my art to the world, but it is fun for me to create, and it definitely informs my other pieces of work.

Three years ago, I did Inktober with the 31witches theme fav.me/dalbqek. This picture was well beloved, so I did it again for my style search. The bat's name is Bruce.

The inspiration of artists (muse) in the World of Fantasy, amateur painting and fantasy story

Artists from the planet Earth believe that inspiration is an inner energy that gives them ideas, mental power which strengthens the will to create a new work. We Assheads from the World of Fantasy, we know that inspiration is a living being that manages the actions of artists, states them to actions that normal man would not do. We consider the coming of inspiration - to a reasonable extent - good for creativity, but if the inspiration gets us in a firm hug and does not give up, it can have a devastating impact on the individual. In such instances, inspiration shows their other, insidious nature, about which little is spoken. Inspiration will, for example, propel artist - as the devil sinning soul - to constantly create, to eat is not thought, to be many nights sleepless, his sexual life can suffer, etc. Striking inspiration, such as a comet in the head, can, in some cases, result in a straitjacket, even death. We Assheads know that it is not wise to give advice to the artist struck by inspiration, warn him that there are still other joy and values in life. His inspiration closed his ears, he works with him as with a toy, so the artist could retaliate with aggression, considering that his personal freedom was compromised. For these and other reasons, we Assheads, marginal artists from the World of Fantasy, do not give special importance to artistic inspiration. - It's important to paint something, dance some dance, make some melody - says asshead Caci - - no matter what you create, there will always be someone stupid enough to see art in it.

Feeding my Fears

This Illustration is a revisited self portrait. The breast on my back feed four pencils/tentacles and the color spread from the female body to the page and "travel" all around the surface. The meaning is to show the reciprocity between the artist and the manufact.

I DONT UNDERSTAND COLOR THEORY AND I NEVER WILL

One of my high school friends went on a family trip and returned to find his girlfriend obsessed with a dead bird. She had found it, extensively photographed it, and kept it in a box. He broke up with her. I cannot, for the life of me, get over this story, even though it happened almost 20 years ago. I want to hunt this girl down and ask her approximately one million questions.

“Melting Pottery”, August 2025.

This week’s been an interesting one for socialising in my world, no denying it. If I’m not getting acquainted with new folks at work or at my art clubs, it’s reconnecting with people I haven’t seen in 20+ years… certainly informed today’s piece, without a doubt!

“Laurel Weaver/Returner”, February 2022.

Rainy days = a perfect excuse for a shedload of coffee and drawing to indulge in. :) Occurs to me I did one with the title “Laurel Weaver” close to four years ago. Not much else connects the two beyond the title or does it? I don’t know... Whatever the case, I fancied recycling and revisiting this idea somehow. Enjoy!

Hibernation

In fact, she [Mummy] said after a while, we have gone into hibernation. Nobody can get in any longer and no one can get out! I looked carefully at her and understood that we were saved. At last we were absolutely safe and protected. This menacing snow had hidden us inside in the warm for ever and we didn't have to worry a bit about what went on there outside. I was filled with enormous relief, and I shouted, I love you I LOVE YOU, and took all the cushions and threw them at her and laughed and shouted and Mummy threw them all back and in the end we were lying on the floor just laughing. Then we began our underground life. We walked around in our nighties and did nothing. Mummy didn't draw. We were bears with pine needles in our stomachs and anyone who dared come near our winter lair was torn to pieces. We were lavish with the wood, and threw log after log on to the fire until it roared. Sometimes we growled. We let the dangerous world outside look after itself, it had died, it had fallen out into space. Only Mummy and I were left. - Sculptor's Daughter by Tove Jansson #dailydrawing #tovejansson

Its Time

Happy New Year! I am thankful for the time I have, for the people in my life, and what God has done. After a life long struggle with alcoholism, I have been sober for 2 and half years now. God helped my to quit and to be set free from it. There is so much more to life and so much I want to do. I have also struggled with living in the past and regrets, but I have been making progress with being in the moment more and being content. I'm looking forward to today and what this upcoming year brings.

Last drawing of 2024

Last drawing of 2024 and looking forward to 2025! Did you know 2025 is a rare, "square number year" since 45^2 == 2025. The last time this happened was in 1936 (i.e. 44 x 44 == 1936), and the next time it will happen will be 91 years from now in 2116 (i.e. 46 x 46 == 2116).

Sigmund Freud

Sigmund Freud (1856–1939) “I cannot imagine life without work as really comfortable,” Freud wrote to a friend in 1910. With his wife, Martha, to efficiently manage the household—she laid out Freud’s clothes, chose his handkerchiefs, and even put toothpaste on his toothbrush—the founder of psychoanalysis was able to maintain a single-minded devotion to his work throughout his long career. Freud’s long workdays were mitigated by two luxuries. First, there were his beloved cigars, which he smoked continually, going through as many as twenty a day from his mid-twenties until near the end of his life, despite several warnings from doctors and the increasingly dire health problems that dogged him throughout his later years. (When his seventeen-year-old nephew once refused a cigarette, Freud told him, From Daily rituals by Mason Currey #dailyrituals #inktober #sigmundFreud @masoncurrey
