Pandemik, September 2020.

A couple of beers, thoughts in my head about lockdown easing and Radiohead lingering in the background while I work = stuff like this.

Surf Cats in Love

These cats live in Bali and surf nearly every day. When they're not surfing they're eating. When they're not eating or surfing they're napping.

We gotta get out of this maze.
1/4

This feels like it could be a fun kids activity page. When I started this doodle it was just the hill with the tunnel maze and a few things added in the maze area. It didn’t feel like it was going anywhere, but as I kept adding things I started to get into it and now I’m happy that I didn’t ditch it. It’s always fun when a piece surprises me. It never gets old.

The Sunbeam and The Troll
1/3

The Sunbeam and the Troll. Illustration of famous Finnish song. I draw three versions of it. Top of the drawings is last and then second and first one. I try to catch idea that Sunbeam fairy is more made of light than materia. Pretty tricky to me ;) ”When sun had ended its mission, The last Sunbeam Was left behind her sisters for a moment. The dusk was settling on the grounds, A Sunbeam with golden wings Was just about to fly before it, But she saw a small Troll come across: It had just risen up from his cave. See,a Troll before the twilight May never live on earth. They were looking at each other The Troll in his chest Felt an odd flame. He said:"You are burning my eyes, But never in my life have I seen something so wonderful!" It doesn't matter that your brightness will make me blind It's easy to wander in dark.”

I Never Noticed The House Was On Fire

55 mins “I Never Noticed The House Was On Fire” This is a painting for an upcoming group exhibition about memories. When I was a kid I grew up in a household where my parents were functioning alcoholics. They gave me toys, put me in front of the tv, and sent me outside to play to keep me distracted from what was going on. When I look back almost all of my childhood memories revolve around these things. I became obsessed with these imaginary worlds and I learned to draw by copying my favorite cartoons and characters from children’s books. It was not until I was much older, that the truth could no longer be hidden from me. The imaginary world of cartoons and books kept me shielded from the harsh realities of home. As I grew into an adult that form of coping grew with me as I created my own imaginary places inspired by the ones I loved as a child. A healthy place to escape.

Three Kings

Three kings stopped a walking man to ask advice about their dreams. But the man said, "Oh no please, I don't want to hear these things." "I have dreams of my own although they'll never come to pass... I just work my life away while all you rich guys sit and laugh."

flying

I started by thinking up the most awful things I could, which wasn't particularly difficult. When I had made things as awful as possible I took a run and bounced off the floor and flew away from everything, leaving it all behind me in a deep well. Down there the whole town was burning. Down there Poppolino was padding around in the studio in the dark screaming with loneli-ness. Down there sat the crow saying: it was your fault that I died. And the Unmentionable Thing crawled under the mat. But I just went on flying. - Sculptor's Daughter by Tove Jansson #dailydrawing #tovejansson

Orangutan sketch

Orangutan sketch (Original Dimensions: 3000x3000px x 300DPI) to try out my new iPad Air M2 13 using both iArtbook Pro and Artstudio Pro artist apps. This iPad is awesome for power and quickness. Here are three main facts about adult male orangutans: 1. **Physical Characteristics**: Adult male orangutans are significantly larger than females, with an average height of about 1.2-1.5 meters (4-5 feet) and weighing around 50-100 kg (110-220 lbs). They develop distinctive physical features such as large cheek flanges (fleshy pads) and a throat pouch, which they use to produce long calls to communicate across the dense forests. 2. **Solitary Lifestyle**: Unlike many primates, male orangutans are solitary creatures. They spend most of their lives alone, except during brief periods of mating. This solitary behaviour reduces competition for food and other resources. The males will range widely and have large territories that often overlap with the ranges of several females. 3. **Long Call**: Adult male orangutans have a unique and powerful long call that can be heard over great distances. This call is used to establish territory and attract females. The call consists of a series of roars, grunts, and bellows, and it serves to warn other males of their presence, helping to maintain social hierarchy and reduce conflicts.

Females

DADDY LOVES ALL ANIMALS BECAUSE THEY don't contradict him. He likes ones that are furry best. And they love him, too, because they know that they can do just as they like. But it's quite a different matter with Females. If you make statues of them they become women but as long as they remain Females things are difficult. They can't even pose properly and they talk much too much. - Sculptor's Daughter by Tove Jansson #dailydrawing #tovejansson

#28 A collection of ballpoint pen sketches scanned

#28 - A collection of ballpoint pen sketches drawn on printer paper & scanned. This is what my lines look like when I'm not using a stabilizer in digital software to get the nicest clean lines. I tried to separate my scanned lines from the various shades of off-white that the scanner picked up. I adjusted the brightness and contrast levels in photoshop but I'm not very knowledgeable on how to achieve the best results.

parties

All men have parties and are pals who never let each other down. A pal can say terrible things which are forgotten the next day. A pal never forgives, he just forgets and a woman forgives but never forgets. That's how it is. That's why women aren't allowed to have parties. Being forgiven is very unpleasant. - Sculptor's Daughter by Tove Jansson #dailydrawing #tovejansson
