JONI JONI JONI

Wow, almost forgot I had this one. I was digging Joni Mitchell well before a lot of my friends "got" her musicianship. Obviously this was more or less copped from "Hejira" - an album that I pretty much wore out. It ain't really that good but what the hell....its aged as well as she has.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Final drawing 6 of 6. Here I fine tuned the piece. Spent some time on the shirt and wrinkles. Added little details like moles and neck creases. Finished up areas of shading. I had a heck of a time on his right eye. It’s the one area I couldn’t get quite to my liking but it is what it is. Overall, I like how this came out.

Mushroom Forest

The cat in this doodle is inspired by "The Beast" from a cartoon that ran when I was a kid. The abstract mushrooms are a slight deviation from my usual botanical abstracts.

Illuminated

Inspired by the Neo-Classical period, I pushed myself as an artist to portray subjects in an idealistic fashion combining drama and artificial lighting. The subject is my sister who modelled as a reference, enabling me to control the shadowy effect over her face. The dim lighting and dark background resonated with the period style, focusing on the facial parts that are visible. The end result looks like she is emerging from the darkness. A somber atmosphere is illustrated through visual expression. Adding the fast drying oil on the brushes improved the blending of the colours on the canvas which was especially useful when it came to applying strokes on the face smoothly. angry bird

This was a bird that escaped from the local zoo and turned up in my neighbourhood. A few volunteers managed to capture it and return it but before they did they managed to get some great photos. It was the insipiration for this drawing. I think it is an african starling.

Couple of Hitchhikers

This is the story of a Hitchhiker who found himself lost in the jungle, alone and afraid. To cope with his aloneness, his mind started to hallucinate that he had a companion by his side. He said, 'Do you think people travel by this route?'. His friend answered 'Absolutely, let us sit on this rock and hitch a ride with the next person that comes by...'

Electric Field Trout

I don't know why these all upload sideways, but here's my latest work for the sketchbook. I created the electric field pattern and printed it on photo paper then doodled these rainbow trout (at the suggestion of my friend Andrew) and glued them on.

Giant Sammich vs Battle Ballerina

My sister-in-law called me on the phone while playing Giant Sandwich VS Princess Ballerina with my (then) 3-year-old niece, (who I assumed was the Princess Ballerina.) From what I could hear over the phone, my niece was using a "flying fist punch" to devastate the evil "Giant Sammich," (which was later described as a ham and swiss on white with flimsy leaves of lettuce.) After that call, I imagined what that fight looked like and put it down on paper.
