I genuinely can't believe it's already March (I also can't believe it'll be a year since the pandemic really started). Yesterday also marked one year since I started journaling, which isn't an actual major thing, but still. How quickly time flies and how big of a difference a year can make. "And when it rains, the rain falls down Washing out the cattle town But she's quite safe up far away in her eiderdown And she dreams of crystal streams Of days gone by when we would lean Laughing, fit to burst, on each other."
Yet again, this came from a doodle... then from there, i just couldn't help myself & continued to add more fun & a few extra nutty bonus cartoons. Hence the number 6. A great caricature artist by the name of Al Hirschfield used to add & scribble his daughters' name into each drawing. He then would add a number next to his signature signaling how many times the name 'Nina' would appear. So in a similar way i too have decided to add a number but mine will simply offer a hint for how many extra cartoons i have deliberately added. Can u find them?
This came about from a doodle. Doodling is a combination of skilled scribbling, mindless direction & abstract tracing. Doodling [For Me] is not sketching someone's portrait or rendering a photo. It's freely skating w a pencil or pen along a drawing surface & searching for discoveries & different unusual paths that some how result in some lovely surprises. So here ye go. I decided to try and do an this one entirely out of pen, without first using pencil..... Which didn't turn out so well considering that I'm terrible at spacing letters. So I am aware his name is missing an a at the end. I will try to upload more frequently and try to figure out how to do digital art, I was having a problem with my images being smaller than 500x500, if you know how you could help me that would be much appreciated.
This very small sketch/doodle, enlarged, inspired a six foot tall painting. The background on the painting is incomplete. I'm back at this work in progress based on this small image from a sketchsheet. This painting will appear at my solo show in Thunder Bay in a couple years.
This is a digital drawing of four random characters. The two on the left were totally spontaneous -- meaning they didn't exist until this picture was drawn. Buddy (on the right bottom corner) is one of my recent creations and he's developed into a very loveable character. Ninjo, I've actually known for a long time. She's a crazy gal -- always chopping stuff and crashing through ceilings. Come to think of it.. she's not really like a ninja at all..!
The whole purpose of this drawing was to showcase my skill areas. I'm skilled in people (both male and female), animals, and even inanimate objects.
today i saw the first little flowers growing near the lake. this made me so happy. i remember, when i drew this some weeks ago, thinking about spring and how beautiful it is.

I've been seeing lots of new bird species around my neighbourhood, like robins and magpies!
I like to think this bird is watching me from the sea of uncertainty, and looking at all the things I will create in the future and secretly telling me to go on, without me knowing how they will turn out. And strangely, that is some kind of motivation for me. : .

In late 2018, after some time not doing any artwork, I really wanted to get back into it. I fancied doing something different and invested in some soft pastels. This was my first go with them and it was a hell of a learning curve about how they adhere to the paper, and how they blend. I'm not really sure the pastels I was using were soft enough for the look I wanted, but I like how loose this one turned out.
One of my early oils from 2017. I was still getting used to the medium. I liked how the oils worked well for the misty distant hills, and I used glazing for the first time on the clouds.
My first foray into oil paints in 2017. This one is inspired by the view from the mountain pass (a road featured several times on Top Gear). Being new to the medium, I had a lot to learn about how it worked. I'm still not sure whether I'm happy with it or not, but I think it would be worth doing again now a few years down the line.

Even though I drew these two with the other three of the Liz Cat's animatronics, they somehow ended up really bad. That's why I didn't put them on the stage with the first three. attempt at free hand drawing with no sketch just lines, it looks so weird to me hehe. anyways its jimin and i had to figure out how to make his face look good in it as well as add details.
It's an odd feeling to reexperience the old anger and frustration I thought I had overcome, but, in all reality, I've been letting it creep back in for a while now. There was a moment of fear, it's still in the back of my mind, I'm afraid to slip back into the mental place I was a couple of years back. I'd like to say I've finally realized that it's ok to be afraid, and even a bit frustrated, but it's a matter of how I handle those emotions and my own reactions that make the difference.

I spent 4 days working on this drawing using nothing but my laptops trackpad. I took inspiration from drips of paint and then stretched them apart to span between where bones should be.
The eye contour area was designed that way in order for it to stretch and collapse almost the same as how muscles contract and relax.
