Gouache on paper, this was my second time using gouache, I’m pretty happy with the medium! And will do more gouache paintings whenever I’m not doing oil
This oil painting was , for me, an explosion of a new freedom I found after finally getting a home nearly 40 years ago, a room with a sink and a bed and a window. I hadn't painted for years, and never without extreme self-consciousness. But years of homelessness changed me and my appreciation of "art". That freedom eludes me these days, that 'ignorant' notion that I can do whatever comes to me. I'd love to get it back. Surely it's in us all. It may be better to paint to be satisfied than to paint to satisfy...
It's been a hot minute. I was taking myself too seriously until there was no fun in drawing left. So I had a break, then bought myself some chunky kids' markers and voilà!
Doodle cards printed with foil and metallic ink - year 1999! I used a desktop printer that could reproduce metallics / foils / spot UV. They don't make desktop printers like that anymore.
This is an oil painting of an African American couple. They’re sharing an intimate moment with each other. Some maybe would say that they’re the epitome of “Black Love”. His skin is dark tones as compared to her lighter shade. The two skin tones wrapped together in sheets gives life to what I call “The Happy Couple”.
