According to Eric Broug, this is one of the patterns found in the Esrefoglu Mosque in Beysehir, Turkey from 1297 CE. (See: "Islamic Geometric Patterns", E. Broug, 2008, p.37). Now that I have the guide lines in place, up next I'll be erasing them and coloring in the pattern shown here. I think I am going to go with green, blue, purple, and yellow. More to come!
As far as things that I can’t seem to shake off are concerned, it’s this fact that a place like Edinburgh where I live is akin to a village where everyone (artist folk in particular) seems to know everyone, and the patterns or quirks that emerge from this said thought process. In most collectives I’m a part of and/or are associated with, there’s what seems like an endless sense of crossover and overlap with fellow artists etc for lack of better words, which is lovely as it is insane... you know? All in all though, even if it drives me mad it does so in a strangely positive way and I’ve learned to live with that. So yeah, make of that what you will. :-)
Metatron’s cube is made up of 13 circles connected by straight lines. It contains all 5 Platonic solids and if you stare at it long enough, letting your eyes focus in and out, you start seeing lots of different shapes and patterns. When I draw this shape I generally leave out some of the connector lines to see how it changes the pattern
I often have weird dreams that inspire my artwork, and that one I had last night where I took over a jungle (or was it a forest? I don’t know) sure got me inspired.
