Tell that do you will do.

Tell that do you will do. "English as She is Spoke" is a delightful example of incompetence and bad judgement. Jose da Fonseca and Pedro Carolina set out to write a Portuguese-English phrasebook. The only problem was that they didn't speak any English. They did know some French and armed with French-English phrasebook, dictionaries and enthusiasm they brought forth this phrasebook. Mark Twain was an early admirer of this book. "Nobody can add to the absurdity of this book, nobody can imitate it successfully, nobody can hope to produce its fellow; it is perfect, it must and will stand alone: its immortality is secure." https://www.instagram.com/p/CIipkwDB0AG/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

Woke up with a stiff neck. Thought that I was (probably) better off than giraffes when they sleep awkwardly. https://www.instagram.com/p/CUVtNygrE59/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

This was my first stab at a Japanese-style 'sumi-e' or ink and brush painting in a 10 minute lunchbreak at work. The paper is a poor base for the wetness of the ink but better than not painting at all! I only have limited art supplies at work (not surpris

Gloaming.

Favorite words. Gloaming. Dusk. For some reason, makes me think of the opening to Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll ’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves Did gyre and gimble in the wabe: All mimsy were the borogoves, And the mome raths outgrabe.

city creature - Anomalica

The monsters we create A collection of creatures born from our impact and existance on Earth. This is a work in progress project, it doesn't yet have a name, but the story becomes more clear every day. Soon I will have more details about it, until then take care, this runner is taking a real shape and it's after you. He is the money maker, the greedy, the selfish buyer of unnecessary things with money he doesn't have. Sounds familyar? 7x7 cm linoprint © Maria ! Balan, 2018

Birches
1/2

Outside my drawing table window are straight and weeping birches. We lost one of the birch trucks and, tragically, a beautiful OLD Japanese maple during an ice storm a few years ago. The third trunk is still in my mind's eye.

#inktober #day19 #scorched

We continue the #inktober environmental issues series with the #day19 word: #scorched and for this word I tried to illustrate the Urban Heat Island effect. This takes place in metropolitan areas that are warmer than the rural areas surrounding them. The main cause of the UHI effect is the alteration of land surfaces (concrete and asphalt). Heat waste produced by people and their tools (like vehicles and industry) is another cause and also the decreased amount of vegetation. UHIs often have lower air and water quality that have a negative effect on the environment of these areas. It is also considered to be a possible contribution to global warming. © Maria!Bălan, 2018
