Lindsay Baker Hello, my name is Lindsay Baker,
and I'm a doodle addict.
Sydney, Australia

My passions include painting (watercolour, acrylic, oil pastel, and more), playing the guitar and piano, reading, illustrated books, cartoons (Rick and Morty, Gravity Falls, Future Space), humour (especially classic British comedy), fantasy and science fiction, gaming in all forms, the paranormal and supernatural, nature, animals, and probably a bunch of other stuff I've forgotten to mention. I *love* to trade original art with other artists. Not big, expensive pieces, just fun postcard-sized pieces. Everyone should own at least one piece of original art (that's not their own!).

FOLLOW

I specialize in acrylic, illustration, landscapes, oil pastel, portraits, still life, watercolor, watercolour.

Big Al

Big Al Lopez from Sktchy. Pen and watercolour. This was only meant to be a doodle in a corner of a sketchbook to knock the cobwebs off as I haven't done pen and watercolour in months, but I quickly got enthused with it and really like the end result!

Famous Bottoms #8

I made a Zine called "Famous Bottoms" - it's a quiz with 12 watercolour paintings of famous bottoms (painted by me). This one is #8 and I assume most people will recognise it! But how many of the others would you know? If you'd like a copy of the Zine, you can buy it at https://LindsayBakerArt.square.site for $AU8.00 plus shipping :)

After

A pencil and watercolour study, inspired by Scott Christian Sava's "60 days of studying the masters" on Youtube. This was intimidating from start to finish, by far the most complex drawing I've ever done! It took me almost a week to get the drawing right, but the painting was done in a day. In between were many days of feeling overwhelmed, lost, and then afraid of messing it up. But I got there in the end and I think I pushed myself to a new skill and confidence level. Good thing too, I've got 58 more studies to do!

Bridge in North Yorkshire

This was an exercise in taking a photo that was quite dark and foreboding and turning it into a happy looking illustration. I'm slowly getting my head around how to make my work look like illustration instead of "fine art". This is watercolour and colour pencil.

Nice hat!

Acrylic gouache on MDF, approx 4x6". Part of an experiment: what if I painted the inside of a picture frame (ie, the inside of the backing board)? Result: it actually works really well!

Still life ATC in oil pastels

I recently discovered oil pastels and am being amazed every day at how versatile they are. While cleaning my desk this morning I found some blank ATCs (Artist trading cards, 2.5x3.5") and wondered if I could work small with such a bulky medium. Turns out, absolutely yes.

An orc with a spork

As a fun way to come up with drawing prompts I've been thinking up rhyming couplets (a la Dr. Suess) with my wife. Particularly pleased with this one! It's going to a friend who loves D&D. Pen and watercolour on paper, 5x7".

It's official. I've gone to the dark side and fallen in love with acrylic gouache - specifically the Liquitex one. If you'd like to read my detailed thoughts I've put them in my blog ( https://www.lindsaymadeit.com/2020/03/05/acrylic-gouache-review-new-portrait/ ) , but otherwise, here's my first painting with them.
