Great question @bleuhope !
MY TOP THREE (while doodling in my sketchbook):
Band: Motorama / Album: Alps
Band: Interpol / Album: Our Love to Admire
Band: Radiohead / Album: In Rainbows
For years, my "go-to" music choice for drawing has been Beethoven's Cell and Piano music played Rostropovich and Richter on cello and piano respectively. During the Covid-19 "shelter in place" time, I have been tuning in to the daily streaming from the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
I usually listens to whatever I like at the moment. That can range from old school country, to pop, and even musicals. Whatever I’m liking at the moment really.
I usually listen to podcasts! 'Stuff You Should Know' is a great one. I get a lot of ideas for stuff to draw while I'm listening to podcasts. For music, the playlist I'm currently listening to obsessively includes stuff from The Dandy Warhols, The Breeders, Love and Rockets, Bad Brains, and Carpenter Brut.
I like to listen to all of the sounds outside while I draw. I like to bring my sketchbook onto my back deck where I can hear the birds chirping and my younger siblings playing.
Well while doing art at start of sketching I start by listening Melodious songs Hindi Melody Songs. then as i reach coloring session. I switch to Party Songs. It includes English, Hindi & Punjabi mostly. And at last while detailing session I listen to Alan Walker songs. It melts my brains. So calm!!!
Being a part-time musician, all kinds of music appeals to me. But in the studio Chillout music, Slow Jams, Smooth Jazz, Bossa Nova and Classical, mostly instrumental, music with lyrics can be distracting.
I'm a huge 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s fan. Elton John is my personal favorite, but the Beatles, Eric Clapton, Queen, and the Eagles are just a few others that I play a lot.
Jeff Buckley inspired a couple of my pieces. I seem to get more creative when I listen to him. Same for really old music, like old blues, bluegrass and gospel played on scratchy records.
I usually put on a k-pop playlist containing songs of my favorite bands: EXO, BTS, Blackpink, Twice, SuperM, GOT7, and Red Velvet. Sometimes I feel like listening to English songs. This playlist contains songs by Billie Eilish, Shawn Mendes, Selena Gomez etc.
Depends on my mood. I usually listen to classical music (big Mozart fan - Symphony #40 in G Minor, Symphony #41 in C are my faves) or the blues (Etta James, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker) or Jazz (Nina Simone, Johnny Hartman). When I need a pick-me-up, my go-to album is Ill Communication by the Beastie Boys.
@GermyK Great shout! Eno is one of my all-time favourite musicians, and Dan Deacon's stuff makes for excellent company when I need inspiration for my work too :)
I like to listen to a wide range of alternative to heavy metal music (October tide, trivium, clutch, katatonia, evergrey, coheed and cambria). These are just a few that get me pumped up and music like these help keep me focused and motivated to finish a project.
