I used to sketch in my car much more often. I'd go downtown and quick sketch people, scenes--whatever moved the spirit. With this sketch, I got the idea for a series...a what if ordinary moments in life were done in Picasso fashion. In this case, it was a Dad with his two kids. I never pursued the idea any further than a handful of quick sketches, but I wonder, what if I painted Dad with two kids Picasso style? It's still on my bucket list. What about you? This is a digital drawing of two magical lions. I'm pretty happy with the way they turned out. The magical wind behind the Sky lion (with the horn) is especially cuter than I thought it would be. That wasn't planned at all -- just a last minute decoration thing. Anyway, hope you like.

The second of my character uploads. Nara is a dragon with her life force connected to nature and who has a very compassionate heart. She hates when fighting occurs.
I participated in a 48 hour plein air painting festival where we choose a location and have 48 to complete the painting. I chose to paint this pond with a rock waterfall on Drake University Campus

A wonderful reflective poem from Wendell Berry entitled "How to be a poet" is a fantastic foundation for an art curriculum. The last of three stanzas reads as follows:
Accept what comes from silence.
Make the best you can of it.
Of the little words that come
out of the silence, like prayers
prayed back to the one who prays,
make a poem that does not disturb
the silence from which it came.
