Watercolor This was drastically different from my usual stuff and lots of fun. I’m thinking of painting a few more cards to match in the same style but featuring different scenes. We shall see what pops out of my brush
Marker, and colored pencil on paper. My partner bought me some fancy markers that have been really fun to play with. I'm thinking about making this image into a greeting card.
(HB pencil on 130mm x 120mm paper) With pandemic lockdowns happening all the time, it's created something of a Victorian feel to Christmas, so it was no surprise that I drew this for the Christmas cards I do at this time of year, along with a very odd version of a round-robin message attached to it. I know this isn't an elaborate piece and I know I've posted different cards before, but I just wanted to wish everyone a merry Christmas and happy holidays! Starring Lesley Gore: You don't own me (1963). Let me tell you a story about women struggling to build careers in "man areas" as if building a house of cards. About a 17-year old girl singing a feminist anthem written by men in the 60s music industry dominated by men. About a young female journalist called Gloria who was supposed to write in "Womens' pages" only. About the same woman shouting out to the pink hats in 2017 as she already did to women in the 70s. Tricolor linoprint using one lino plate. December, 2020.
(H pencil on a 139mm x 87mm postcard) A dreamscape image (automatism) which seems to show a woman with folded arms, stood by a wall. The figure was the main thing which became prominent at the Rorschaching stage of the work, and apart from the faint hint of a wall, the rest was dream construct.
Let me tell you a story about printing a kind of cheesy christmas card. A piece of paper to say "Merry Christmas" and "Happy Holidays". To deliver "Hugs and Kisses" you won't be able to give on Christmas in Fuck2020. To say "I miss you" and "See you soon". Linoprint using edge trim. December, 2020.
(2B pencil on 80mm x 48mm paper) Another of my Guardian Spirit pieces drawn on a much smaller format so that I can hand them out to people I meet as calling cards.
(HB pencil on 80mm x 50mm paper) Similar to previous Guardian Spirit works I've done, but this time on an even smaller format so that I can hand them out as calling cards to people I meet. Again, the idea of them is a rib against those who believe in such nonsense as guardian angels and spirit guides.
I actually finally got round to framing this piece I did and hanging it up on my wall the other day, which made me really happy :).
Tool used: acrylics, colouring pencils, posca markers on brown A4 card.
This was Emma Thompson in one of my favourite films, Stranger Than Fiction - she is brilliant! I used just colouring pencils in this one to try out a soft, harmonious look, on the background of blue A4 card. I quite like the relationship between the foreground and background in this piece; had the background been white, I don't think it would have worked as well.
