Inspired by the Neo-Classical period, I pushed myself as an artist to portray subjects in an idealistic fashion combining drama and artificial lighting. The subject is my sister who modelled as a reference, enabling me to control the shadowy effect over her face. The dim lighting and dark background resonated with the period style, focusing on the facial parts that are visible. The end result looks like she is emerging from the darkness. A somber atmosphere is illustrated through visual expression.
Adding the fast drying oil on the brushes improved the blending of the colours on the canvas which was especially useful when it came to applying strokes on the face smoothly. Visit https://www.martiaposts.com for more
Progression 2 of 6. Spent some time here in the hair, beard, and eye. The transition in the hair from light to dark was done mainly by not adding in graphite in heavy amounts and using the pencil eraser to define the hair.
I had this black cardboard lying around for quite some time so I finally decided to make something out of it. Went for a intense lighting on a horse silhouette because the cardboard is dark and well, because I really like horses. Hope you like it.

When I was planning this pattern I really wanted it to have a dark background. I built it in photoshop using hand drawn marker flowers but when I try to place them on a dark background it looks ridiculous!
This comic came out of a conversation I’m having with a friend. We both found it fascinating that so many comedians and creatives come from broken and dark places. Walking beast consume liquid to twist minds into horrid measure. Running away, outside dark realms, children always seem to suffer. Tears under this bed, in time, will he find you?
Beaten mention through words that of a dark age reveal vines that bleed into the hearts of many. To present your reflective waves, to be ridiculed by voices lacking the complete understanding. In thoughts, a depression emerges.
Deep thoughts compose these kinds of oddity fully. Severed ways of a child begin darkness, but these waves of good manner determine a decent stride to come. A belief in harmony to bloom soon.

In this photo I drew two Betta fish, a clock and a female in a dark background. Drawing this picture was more of a self expression. The two betta fish expressed conflict; the clock expressed running out of time and the female I guess would represent myself. I was in a dark period while drawing this, but happy to say, I’ve managed to pull through my obstacles =)
