Putting the painting of the newt aside for now.
It was not going as I hoped (see previous post)...I still have ideas but feel like I need to work on some things before progressing. Thinking it was the eyes, so decided to work on some studies. These creatures do have fascinating eyes!
My daughter is loving my weird floppy cats so I drew a colouring page for her although I am thinking I might end drawing a few more and making it into a little book for her. I can't wait to see how she colours this in :)
This doodle is named for what it's painted on. I had a theory that Cheerio box cardboard would take well to watercolors, and I was right! Part of a personal project I'm working on right now, to experiment with new art styles and practice lettering skills by drawing animals. The color palette and symmetrical motifs in this one were inspired by the boats on Lake Xochimilco in Mexico, which is the last remaining place wild axolotls live.

The Queer Old Man is a solid wood puppet head created more than 50 years ago if not more. The eyes of the character are a radiant blue and the carved structure of the face is expressive and bold.

My painted interpretation of a large quilt my grandma made and stitched by hand decades ago using upcycled shirts. It’s gotten a lot of use and is showing the wear and tear that a well loved quilt will show on a long enough timeline. Still, I can’t bring myself to put it away for long. While a piece of me thinks I should keep it safe and preserved, my grandma is a practical woman that likes knowing something she made is getting good use. A sentiment I can appreciate. And so, maybe I can extend it’s life through watercolor.
I'm working on a mini series in which I'm drawing some of my favorite Pokemon,Sceptile is my favorite Grass Type Pokemon, plus this drawing gave me an excuse to use several different green watercolors that I own. The rest of the gang can be found over at Instagram (link in bio).
