Only my second time tackling the lusca as a drawing subject… hopefully it checks out! “The Lusca is a legendary sea monster from Caribbean folklore, primarily said to inhabit the underwater caves and blue holes near Andros Island in the Bahamas. Described as a massive hybrid—often half-shark, half-octopus—or a giant squid/octopus, it is rumored to reach lengths up to 75–200 feet.”

A while back, I jumped into a global property deal, saying folks like me could cash in on hot foreign housing scenes. Real estate - sure, everyone knows it prints money, a big-time industry worldwide. It looked solid at first - they showed me online walkthroughs of places I partly owned, got me pumped. Still, there was this weird vibe nagging me, hard to explain, just wouldn’t quit bugging me inside. I ignored it, though, brushed it off, kept going anyway. One thing I’d say now? Listen to that inner voice - every single time. I kept picturing the steady cash coming in, which blurred how clearly I saw things. At first, they paid me consistent returns, making it feel legit. Over time, though, I poured more money into it. Before long, I tried pulling out bigger amounts - but then the payouts just vanished. The reasons they gave shifted every week, and not long after, they began asking for added charges to fix the withdrawal issues. The inevitable Labubu fan art has arrived! I mean, I see so many of them here in Edinburgh and my folks (knowing full well my plushie habit) just so happened to pick one up for me as a gift en route back from their Cyprus trip. Can’t complain obviously, he’s a very good boy! :-)

This week’s been an interesting one for socialising in my world, no denying it. If I’m not getting acquainted with new folks at work or at my art clubs, it’s reconnecting with people I haven’t seen in 20+ years… certainly informed today’s piece, without a doubt!

The Watermelon Folk is an Acrylic painting on canvas measuring 61 x 61 cm. It is an intuitive painting. I practice Raja Yoga Meditation .which is an open eye meditation; so while I am painting I am in a meditative state. What appears on the canvas is straight from my inner being. If I like what appears I will let it live but if I don't like it , then it needs to go, and I will paint over it. My paintings go through many lives before they are complete.

Crafted after folkloric saying in Terry Pratchett's "I Shall Wear Midnight". It evokes the beautiful movement of the wild hare, gracefully jumping into the bare flames yet not being burnt.
