The materials that Meir uses in her works are not of the refined and so she is called an “arte povere” artist. At times she describes her work as someone dealing in alchemy - work develops as in a trial laboratory with different techniques and materials. She says, “ at times the artistic work process is a sort of puzzle demanding the filling in of all the empty squares “. Some of her work focuses on women, and they incorporate criticism and cultural protest. Meir has strong opinions about recycling and environmental protection that is represented in her works by use of materials and shapes. In her work she reacts to contemporary art that communicates with the eco system, waste, and she also searches for different worlds. Her works are made up of layers upon colorful layers that when we look at them it becomes clear that the mound of waste she chose is not coincidental. It actually becomes a colorful kaleidoscope of utopia. Jaffa Meir is a multifaceted, autodidact artist working in painting, sculpture, photography, product design, carpets and furniture, painting on textile, and computer graphics. The structural composition of some of the works is influenced also by her many years of working in the architects’ office. Meir also worked in the developing of ideas within the field of ecosystems and recycling for factories such as Coca Cola, and during this process came up with ideas for designing parks and public game spaces using industrial waste products.

Day 1 Gargoyle INKTOBER STARTS NOW!! This why I have been MIA for awhile I have been working on making drawings for the past 2 weeks. I have always wanted to participate in Inktober but never gave myself the time to execute ideas probably, until now. New story idea

Here it is! The 4th Glorious Mystery: The Assumption of Our Blessed Mama, Body and Soul, into Heaven. I studied some icons on the dormition of our lady in order to get some ideas for this one. In the Icons Jesus is holding the Soul of Our Lady. Just as she bore him and held Him as a child so now Jesus holds her and brings her into heaven. Then you can see her assumed body above. Oh and according to ancient tradition all the apostles were brought together for this event. "Henceforth all generations will call me blessed; for he who is mighty has done great things for me" (Lk 1:48-49). "The Most Blessed Virgin Mary, when the course of her earthly life was completed, was taken up body and soul into the glory of heaven, where she already shares in the glory of her Son's Resurrection, anticipating the resurrection of all members of his Body" (CCC, 974). Happy Solemnity of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist! He who prophesied the Christ in the Womb! Our Church is called St. John the Baptist so it is a particular special feast for us. It was also the name one of the Churches that St. Benedict started. Why? Because St. John the Baptist (along with Elijah and Moses) is a type or model of the Monk. Jesus of course is himself the Ideal Monk to follow, in whom all true monks follow the example of. Of course I'm talking Christian Catholic Monks. St. John the Baptist, Pray for Us!

Sweet Hand drawn Cup Cake

My drawings depict figures that are created from my imagination. My figures are distorted and usually out of proportion as I prefer not to be constrained by reality of what we see around us . My work typically is done using a simple black biro. I find the act of drawing a vehicle to express and explore ideas in figurative forms.

This one was definitely fun to make! It was created during the chilly nights that November brought. I'd like to say I learned a lesson from this painting, actually. I learned that sometimes it's okay to doubt yourself. The background in this painting was originally pure black with out lettering. It sat in my room for days, but in the pit of my stomach I felt that it just wasn't right. Eventually, I surrendered to the daunting sensation and started incorporating other colors into the mixture. Slowly, but surely, life was brought to what was originally just a plain idea.
