This piece came out in an attempt to make sense of the world around me after discovering that I have autism and a few processing disorders. I’ve always had a hard time in relation to people and now it makes sense, but wrapping my mind around who I am and what people want is a challenge. Acyrlic paint. This piece was commissioned by a coworker. It was a very large piece at 24"by26" on green leather. I used an acrylic base and then completely covered that with oils. It becomes very dusty when dried so I added many layers of a spray varnish for oils on top. The color remained nice and vibrant.
Eve is a continuation on my series of portraits. This piece represents my maturing technique and style as I begin to experiment with creamy consistencies. The painting displayed my ability to capture facial expressions.
My trip to Paris, France influenced my painting style. I was struck by the realism and drama depicted in various compositions, but also the lack of diversity. This piece is named "Eve" questioning whether the holy subjects depicted in European art were, in fact, part of a different race altogether.
The forest nearby is full of baby banksias growing in poor gravelly/sandy soil which they do better in. The little one was growing on the edge of a gravel road.
Capturing the spaces in between and amplifying them with a play on exposure and contrast to bring forth the beauty I see within the layers. This particular play is a flower I saved from a very special event I attended. I then dried the petals of this beauty. These special petals make their way to various projects, including oil and acrylic paintings and resin on canvas. More to come :)
