Tiny painting made on my break from a bigger project I'm working on. The whole thing sprouted from a sketch of my small potato plant. Anyone else feels sorry for their patatoes when they sprout too much and plants them? The plants are so pretty, too!

Annette Hanshaw, look her up. She is wonderful!!! Now, I think some people think I'm tryna be rude doing this whole Joker-esque vibe, PLEASE, I'm not. I like and respect Joker (mainly the Mark Hamill one). The music that Annette Hanshaw sings is one that takes me back to a time where we get that nice old soul of old timey goodness, which is what Mr Mark Hamill's portrayal of the Joker made me think of. So, making an older photo of Annette Hanshaw look like the Joker form DC comics, to me, is a cool thing. Yes, I didn't draw the entire thing, this is just me drawing over the picture. I love how these nesting dolls came out. I'm also into the Dakota Fanning inspired piece on the left. Dakota's character in The Alienist is a lot of fun. I'm glad she seems to have come out of child acting fairly unscathed. We don't hear a lot of stories of her gallavanting around LA, thieving & putting substances up her schnoz. That's a pleasant change of pace for a celebrity.

“I Never Noticed The House Was On Fire” This is a painting for an upcoming group exhibition about memories. When I was a kid I grew up in a household where my parents were functioning alcoholics. They gave me toys, put me in front of the tv, and sent me outside to play to keep me distracted from what was going on. When I look back almost all of my childhood memories revolve around these things. I became obsessed with these imaginary worlds and I learned to draw by copying my favorite cartoons and characters from children’s books. It was not until I was much older, that the truth could no longer be hidden from me. The imaginary world of cartoons and books kept me shielded from the harsh realities of home. As I grew into an adult that form of coping grew with me as I created my own imaginary places inspired by the ones I loved as a child. A healthy place to escape.
Sometimes I like to challenge myself and draw something completely different and full of details.... this was a bit tedious :) but I am glad I did this, it was a great workout for the brain!

Little watercolor horses, they were fun to draw and paint and each seems to have it's own personality. Some look a little too much like a donkey though. lol
