Daily Painting Challenge 2 - basketweave Following the daily painting challenge with Lisa Congdon over at CreativeBug though I haven't quite managed to keep up daily. Still, it's wonderful picking the brush up again and splashing around with paint!

Here are several steps in the process of making a particularly complex pattern and some color variations.

Abstract Ink doodle and background on Yupo paper, using pinks, purples and blues. Apparently this year's colour is Ultraviolet! Design available as stickers, clothing, prints and decor.

This is a piece of work of a canal in Amsterdam. i made a rubbing with pencil of a interesting patterned wall to create a base tone and then worked into it. This helped focus on tone and create interesting textures.

I also digitally made this into a seamless repeating pattern, so it can be put on fabric, wallpaper, home goods, clothing, etc.

My grandma is a craftswoman . She used to work at a Talavera pottery studio and sometimes I would skip school and join her at work. She would give me an imperfect blank pottery piece and lend me her painting supplies so I could create my own art.

These patterns are all made from drawings pulled from my 2017 sketchbook project. I studied fiber arts in grad school and learned how to do repeat patterns - the old fashioned way by cutting and taping paper together... I haven't done any in 25 years - until this month!

When you are gifting a present and run out of wrapping paper just grab some Kraft (or recycled) paper and draw all over it to create your own custom pattern.
