This tree is right outside the balcony at my parents' home. I can spend hours just starting at the fronds. This must be the fourth or fifth time I've sketched out.

Magnolias are spring harbingers in our garden, as well as our annual ornamental cherry display. Star magnolias are over, tulip magnolias are in full swing, and the occasional Southern magnolia is starting. Perhaps I should have done this with a gouache paint, but I used colored pencils. An ode to one more fresh start.

The Super Bloom is still going in SoCal! On the trail are poppies, daisies, alyssum and now the mustard grass is in bloom. My process was an iPhone photo, then a drawing with color and then collage in Photoshop.

Lost two babies in less than a year... tough life, but they are bright stars in the sky.
