Graphite and charcoal with white acrylic paint for some of the stars. This year, my brother and sister in law got a telescope, so their family had a space themed Christmas. This was my contribution. Side note, I only just thought about how cruel I was to drop my nephew off in the arctic circle with only a tee shirt. We'll just say it's the north pole and the magic keeps them warm...
A recent commission from a patron of mine. They have weekly game #DungeonsAndDragons game nights and wanted all of their original thought up characters in a group shot. I was happy to oblige -- this was both a challenge and so much fun! A total of 13 characters was done, in about 2 1/2 weeks time!
A captivating exploration of form, this work features an imaginative flower with a distinctive, almost sculptural head. The smooth, folded petals suggest a soft resilience, like a fleshy, protective helmet, while delicate antennae reach tentatively toward the light. The long, winding stem and minimal leaves anchor the drawing, creating a strong vertical movement. This was my first trial with doodling in years. Done during the COVID lockdown, I was feeling lonely and anxious, and had only a piece of paper and one marker at hand. I smoked a joint and started drawing. I'm particularly proud of this one because it was completely intuitive and free-style, and it made me confident enough to keep doodling afterwards.
Against the weight of a storm-dark sky, tender stems lean forward—some bending, some breaking, some still reaching.
They hold their fire at the tips, waiting to bloom, waiting to burn, waiting to belong to light.
Perhaps this is all of us:
stretching through shadows,
searching for the thin, golden line that divides earth from eternity.

Older picture I've done. At that time I wasn't used to using references, but instead I did everything from my head, as I imagined them. And this time I wanted to create a lonely arctic fox with a warmer atmosphere surrounding the animal.
