More ballpoint pen experiments. This was trying to "blend" colors, using ball point pens in a similar way to colored pencils. I found Layering evenly to be pretty difficult, esp with the pens blotching and very very limited burnishing. The interesting thing is that the paper doesn't seem to get "tired" the way it does with pencils. This is just cheap printer card stock.
This artwork was inspired from snapchat, an app which I really love. I took one of my favourite filters and drew it on a person. It was an interesting experiment, I got the idea of google! I've been so impressed with the ball point pen art that I have seen on this site, that I decided to give it a try. This is a Betta fish (Siamese fighting fish) done in red, blue, and purple ball point pens. Obviously, I have much to learn....but it was great fun and I have ordered some more colors since I plan on experimenting more. I've enclosed a photo of the work in progress and the various reference photos I used. The colors are more true to the final scan than in the flash photo of my drawing table.
I initially wanted to draw a mandala but after outlining the big circles, I thought "why not add some texture?" and there you go. Experimenting with different shapes and shades always pays off.

This started as a purely experimental abstract piece, but evolved to include both abstract and surreal (i.e. representational) elements.
I've been experimenting with colour pallets and line width. Also trying to do LESS - my natural tendency is to add everything so cutting back is quite hard, but I think works better.

Sorry I haven’t been around to post much. I’m always really busy during the summer months. I decided to buy a set of oil paints and experiment with them. When my set arrived, it was missing a blue paint so i had to improvise on this one. The painting is still wet so there is some glare in the image. I feel like it looks good, but I am definitely lacking the skill and technique in oil paints. That is why this painting is super simple and easy subject matter. Hopefully, I can start to get a feel for the oils :)
I'm just experimenting with some very old kohinoor woodless colored pencils. It's spring upstate. One is my husband's garage, one is a very sunny spring day on an ATV trail behind my house.
This a figurative inspired abstract sketch using layers of pencil crayon. I wanted to express an individuality and togetherness at the same time. I also wanted to experiment with space, shape and depth.
This is an experiment, I was trying to make a paper doll. I haven't cut out the pieces yet, but I'll post a picture tomorrow with the doll wearing the clothes. I also experimented with shading on the hair, and a different way of drawing it. I'm really sorry the picture is on it's side, I will fix that next time I do one of these.
