Drawing Challenge

Draw Your #TrueSelfie

Let’s celebrate diversity! Our newest challenge is to draw yourself, whether it be a spot-on representation or a more creative and interpretative self-portrait - every selfie is welcome.

The only requirement, you may ask? Using crayons as the primary medium.

Inspired by Crayola’s new line of products, “Colors of the World.” This new set of 24 skin tone crayons have been formulated to better represent people around the world. The new collection will be accompanied by colored pencils and markers with an upcoming release date.

Everyone is welcome to participate and upload their selfie (US and International), but make sure to read the submission guidelines to ensure you qualify to be entered to win a prize!

I didn’t know crayons could do this. This is my first time doing a self-portrait as well as a first for making something impressive with crayon.

Crayons on paper. Self portrait. Serious expression on election night. The orange skin shows what is serious about it.

I am glad to see Crayola putting out these different skin tone crayons, 'Colors of the World'! I have mixed a few of the colors to create my self-portrait. My friends describe me as animated and goofy so rather than rendering my self-portrait realistically (which is a challenge in itself, in a medium I am not used to!), I created a some-what caricature of myself with the drawing utensil in my hair. And I couldn't help but add people-like silhouettes in the background using all of Crayola's Colors of the World!

I love coloring so much, so hard, I ripped the page. That purple blot is a sticky-note attached to the back side to masquerade the rip I made. Thanks, Crayola, for all the pictures and all the lovely smells over the years. (I'm a dad, an illustrator, and a teacher in Greenville, SC.)

I'm a self taught artist who has used Crayola colored pencils, crayons, and markers for a long time. I was thrilled to find a box of the new skin colors! No longer do we have to use just orange, yellow, brown, and peach etc. for skin colors with crayons!

Hey there! My name is Anna, I am 24 years old and from Germany. I love bright colors and abstract art. For this #trueselfie of me I went for a fun colorblock look using pink, blue, orange and black Crayola Twistable crayons and bold linework made with acrylic markers and pen. I will also be uploading my painting process on my YouTube channel, so I'll hopefully see you there!

This is me, like many other women in the world trying to juggle home and work. Enjoying the flavors of life in my various roles as a mom, wife, daughter, daughter-in-law, sister, sister-in-law, friend and co-worker. I love cooking for my family as much as I enjoy working on my experiments in the lab aimed to develop therapies for improving quality of life in patients. I draw inspiration from people around me especially strong women. Firm believer of 'Estrogen Power'. Just as the 'Matt finish' of my drawing with the Crayola crayons, I believe each one of us are unique and beautiful the way we are and should be loved and respected!

My ever growing collection of crayons includes Crayola’s new line of skin tone colors! I imagine any artist who does portraiture would enjoy this line. But, I’m proud of Crayola for this timely edition. It’s been said “The best time to plant a tree was 25 years ago. The next best time is now!” #TrueSelfie #crayola #crayons #crayonencaustic #hotwax #colorfulencaustic

Since I don't have the new crayons, I decided to use black, white, grey, and silver. It's just printer paper, so I had to stop after some blending and scratching, because the paper just couldn't take more.

It's been an odd past few days, and I'm quite frankly surprised that resurrecting my crayons made me realize this. I'd like to say I've had things under control for a while, I'd like to say I've been doing better, and, in certain aspects, I definitely have. Compared to where I was 2 years ago, I've made so much progress and I'm proud of that. I'm a different person, in a great way. At the same time, there's much more to be done. Things unraveled this weekend...to say the least. The anger I thought I finally escaped from crept back in, and seemingly worse than it was before. But hey, I've learned from before where that gets me, and I've come too far to go down that road again. I don't know. Who knows what'll happen, the future is terrifying, but we'll see what chaos, or calmness, is thrown my way... Enjoy.

I used the colors of the world crayons not just for my skin but also my hair. It’s not really blond and definitely not brunette but a mixed up shade in between. Yellow just doesn’t cut it and neither does brown!

I've really been depressed in quarantine and just with 2020 in general, so I drew this. It's the first time I used multiple layers of shading in a digital artwork and I really like how it turned out :)

This was interesting! I had two colours in my ancient crayon set that i used to blend to make my skin tone.. close-ish. and then had to supplement with pencils and blacked out the background with acrylic Good on Crayola!

I chose this self portrait because I wanted to represent who I am and my diverse heritage and the LBGQT community. My dad was born in Jamaica, my mum Ireland they met in England making me mixed race and British. I call my self ‘Jamirish’ (JAMaican, IRish and britISH). Im new to art, never thought of using crayons as a primary medium and enjoyed a new challenge. I used ink, a rubber, fingers and palette knives. My T-shirt represents the Jamaican and Irish flag and my bandana the uk and my ethnicity same as my face.

A Warm Automne Day. This selfie is of me in my element on a perfect fall day. Strolling around my neighbourhood, sun on my face, wearing my favourite shades. You can’t see it but I have a coffee in hand too! This is my first time using crayons as my media (as an adult) and I enjoyed it very much!

Title: Anemoia; noun - "nostalgia for a time you've never known" My initial expression of my 'True Self' is what I love and what I see as my passion. I love ancient art however, I also live and focus on modern art, so what I tried to do with this piece was show the Soul Portrait of my 'True Self' was the integration of ancient inspiration, philosophy, and style made into my modern artwork. The position of me and the statue is from an ancient Greek art piece, while the side of the statue is meant to represent aspects of the ancient world while my side represents the modern world. Altogether, my true self is someone who looks to the past for inspiration for the future, and longs for an era I was never apart of.
