visualize your strengths

an art project for the longest time ago. in my sixth grade homeroom, we were asked to visualize our strengths. i think i misunderstood the assignment, because all my classmates just threw a bunch of stock photos onto a slideshow lol

I'm trying to improve my art and coloring techniques. The hair could have been colored a bit better, but I think the anatomy I did somewhat good on.

Lonely Space

I think for a lot of us, the pandemic has redefined what the definition of “staying at home” means. It has been a struggle navigating the new definition of “home” and the space that “home” occupies in our lives.

Brave is...

...To step into your shoes and walk out the door, leaving the comfort of your cocoon. Into the world again, after long to interact with people face to face. To realise you can’t, turn around and run away. I think, I have become insane with long intervals of horrible sanity.

Black Mountains

My first foray into oil paints in 2017. This one is inspired by the view from the mountain pass (a road featured several times on Top Gear). Being new to the medium, I had a lot to learn about how it worked. I'm still not sure whether I'm happy with it or not, but I think it would be worth doing again now a few years down the line.

Smile

I haven't posted on a while but here's more digital art! I think I shaped the eyes wrong so now they just look sad but hey, I'm learning! I didn't have time to give details to the hair since I was focused on the face, but I like the shape of it. What do you think? Let me know if you have any suggestions to improve this, thanks!

Nature Spawn of Days Passed Concept Art

started out as a pintrest try, I think it looks nice overall . There have been many Nature Spawn in the realm of Wonder . Only ever one at a time. The Nature Spawn always protects the Faere Forests . The Nature Spawn is documented to appear as an alf or tree creature when it takes a physical form. https://www.deviantart.com/untitledhero700/art/Nature-Spawn-Form-Long-Past-851487515

Oswald the Alien

I forgot that this prompt was for last week, but I figured I'd upload this anyway. It's definitely a simple drawing; I think it turned out pretty okay. I rarely use markers and I don't usually draw mythical creatures/aliens, so this was pretty interesting to do.

SD Hellboy

A super deformed Big Red! It was fun to turn Hellboy into a drawing like this. Even though this is the same style I've used for other SD drawings I've done previously, I tried to add as much Mike Mignola style as I could. It was an interesting challenge. I think there needed to be something extra to go along with it, so I added a background slice full of monsters, skeletons, and other scary stuff. Some of it was inspired by various drawings from Hellboy comic covers, and some of it I make up. Please take a moment to take a closer look. I was a lot of fun to work on that, and I think I will try to incorporate more of that style into my work in the future. Pastimes

Well... My school got closed for 2 weeks due to COVID-19. I think that the virus is a relatively serious thing, but closing schools isn’t going to do anything. The virus will still be there when we come back. I’m glad for the break, but I know I will find myself bored at some point. This means a lot of random paintings and drawings :)

Een vertekend beeld?

This is a self-portrait. I didn't use a mirror or a picture here. This is what I look like in my own memories. It's a bit misleading, I think I am skinnier than the drawing suggests, but that doesn't feel like me. I have been overweight for years and I feel like I am too skinny at the moment. I feel like I should be curvier like in the drawing. This is about body-image, body-dysmorphia even. I do have those clothes, glasses and haircut. This work is pastel on paper (it's quite big, but I don't have a measure closeby)

Inktober Day 12 - Dragon

And of course when I think of dragon, I think of Drogon and Daenerys Targaryen- “The First is Her Name, The Unburnt, Queens of the Andals, the Rhoynar and the First Men, Queen of Meereen, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Protector of the Realm, Lady Regent of the Seven Kingdoms, Breaker of Chains and Mother of Dragons”.

Handmade card display

I've recently made a card display for my cards and prints at an art space I'm exhibiting in for a while. Had to doodle the back, I couldn't not the doodle the back, which I think adds to the charm of my display being handmade and selling my merch... There's a HOW TO post on my blog if you fancy giving it a go yourself...

The Pearl Bordered Fritillary

The (i think) 12th and final butterfly for the Literal Butterflies Project. Wow! thats a lotta flutterflies. This one was certainly tedious with such elaborate markings, she wasn't easy! ... That said, none of them were. With such beauty, and intricate wing pattern and design, butterflies are a very difficult subject to work with. But somehow we managed to get through all 12 with some of my hair left! Loved every step of this journey :)

Haning Coat. Contour line observational drawing with a G2 Pen

I think that sometimes 'waiting' is the hardest thing to do. If you have a place to hang your coat and you have a rich inner life, you will be fine waiting. I was waiting to be seen by my doctor. A general check-up. The prognosis is that I am getting older and I need to lose weight. OK then. Thank you.

A strict study only of a Monet landscape.

This is a reproduction study only of a very famous Monet piece. I am not selling this. I learned how to do art according to the traditional methods of studying great masterpieces. I did this in soft pastel, but the origional is done in oil I think.
