I was listening to the song ‘Devil Doesn’t Bargain’ by Alec Benjamin (HIGHLY recommend by the way!), and I thought ‘hey! This OC matches the vibe of this song.’ And decided to write the lyrics behind him. For future reference, that takes far too long, but it turned out pretty well!
I do generally put pen (or some kind of tool), to paper (or some kind of surface), every day, but I'm really TRYING to do it purposefully in one singular location (journal). Here is a successful attempt from that particular day. I'm also super lazy, which means I never go up to my actual studio and only use what's out on my computer desk. (Including the "waste" page because I often like it as much/more.)
Done 2014 with pen and sharpie on `8.5x11 print paper. this drawing came about when i saw advertisement on back of the comicbook i just saw glimpse of it and drew whatever i remembered from my imagination . Not a ‘robot’ per se, but an android/replicant. From the classic movie Blade Runner about an alternative future 2019-2049 and beyond. Replicants were used as slaves for humans. Red Bic4 Ballpoint Pen on Archival 9” x 12” paper.
These are some gesture drawing sketches I did in ink with white pen highlights on brown paper. I was in Europe and sitting around a fountain watching people go about their lives. This was a really fun figure study and I think people make for great works of art.
Situational awareness is important these days. Pre-pandemic, I sometimes take my doodles to coffee shops during my lunch breaks and relax for half an hour or so by mindlessly scribbling/shading with my Bic pen. People usually leave me alone but this drawing made me realise that not everyone wants to see a man drawing a naked man. A few people took exception to my subjects’ lack of clothing and made their displeasure known by telling me. Suffice to say, I try not to go into coffee shops anymore while working on subject matter that might offend anyone. Bic4 Ballpoint Pen on 9” x 12” Archival paper. Model: Malik_E
