I was looking at what Pixabay might offer as inspiration, and found this fish. Perfect for a ballpoint pen drawing. The incompleted drawing in the second photo was taken before the final "glaze" of little scribbles of turquoise pen across almost the whole surface. It was a happy accident that made for a shimmery, iridescent fishy quality.

"English as She is Spoke" is a delightful example of incompetence and bad judgement. Jose da Fonseca and Pedro Carolina set out to write a Portuguese-English phrasebook. The only problem was that they didn't speak any English. They did know some French and armed with French-English phrasebook, dictionaries and enthusiasm they brought forth this book. Mark Twain was an early admirer of this book. I started a project of hunt illustrations, where things in the image need to be found. In this, the objects were: Lost iPhone, murder weapon, portal to another world, glass half empty and banana. (This is the pre-digital illustration which I don’t usually share but felt like a change!)

* Starting is easy, it's the middle that is often a muddle. And I won't even mention the endings. Here are some beginnings for children stories that flitter through my head.
ya'know, i make more than a few of these, numbers aren't so important, this guy is just another living being who has lost their way. They're chosen to turn away from the gods and civilized society and toward hell, evil, anarchy, death, and other misdeeds. We all fall, but some of us don't get back up, we just linger in our darkness and drag others down to us. Superstition : Fishing.
One of the strangest sea fishing superstitions says that if a fisherman and his wife have a quarrel and fight just before he goes to sea then he can expect a good catch. The argument though, must develop naturally, and not be staged deliberately, and if a man actually draws blood from his wife then he can expect an especially large haul.
