Shelter in Place Days 61 and 62

A zoom reunion with the girls from my freshman engineering floor and the bison in Golden Gate Park. I've been wanting to sketch the bison for awhile. Unfortunately, it was super hot when I finally had a moment alone on my bike ride home, and I didn't have a hat. I'll visit them again better prepared for the elements.

Up There

White and sanguine conte pencils on toned paper. These ruins captured my drawing itch with the quality of the light filtering brilliantly through the tangled growth outside, and the open shade within. At a metaphorical level, the image is about the sense of having a laborious path set in stone for me by custom, convention, and culture, while way is wide open to the chaotic fertility of nature, should I choose to follow my own feet and heart.

Steam Powered Excavation Spider

A steam titan from the elder age, long forgotten. But this mammoth of gears and levers has not fogotten it's purpose. It delves through stone, and rock and mineral and earth. It hasn't stopped since the master's last order. The very nature of this machine is loyalty itself. Sometimes the scavengers follow it, picking up the remains it leaves behind in its search. What is it searching for? The center of the Earth? Nirvana? Hell for us ? Many a strange thing lay in the world of Nornwan. Was it always so? Mayhaps... But to find the answers to these questions, we must do as this steam engine, we forge onward. March on, Untitled Heroes. We are untitled. No one can stop us. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCKXBKF6a2BWVDy_SgMvk8GQ?view_as=subscriber #cartoons #cartoonart #cartooning #cartoony #nornwan #spiders #cartoonist #inspiring #colors #untitledheroes #art #artoftheday #original #fantasy #originalcharacter #awesome #artwork #mixmedia #newcartoon #nornwan #supercool #story #storytime #indie #wasteland #apocalypse #steampunk #steampunkstyle #steampunkdesign

Shades of Pink > Grimes cover art
1/3

Water color pencils in a monotone piece of shades of pink. This was pretty hard considering I didn't have any magenta or hot pink hues. I had to create them and it was a pleasure. This was inspired from one of the artist's Grimes cover art.

Bezel Set Trilogy Ring

When a ring is bezel set, the metal setting holding the gemstones in place lies close to the stone, creating a line of metal around the edge of the stone. Trilogy rings are any rings that prominently feature three gemstones. Sometimes the gemstones are a uniform size, and sometimes one stone - usually the central stone - is larger than the others.

Channel Set Eternity Ring

Eternity rings feature diamonds all around the band. The channel setting means that the gemstones are set on the top and the bottom, with the setting sitting on level with the stones, creating a little 'channel' that the stones sit in.

A bezel - or collet - setting is where the setting metal surrounds the girdle of the gemstone. Learn more about the anatomy of a ring here https://www.acsilver.co.uk/acsnews/2019/05/06/anatomy-of-a-ring/

Hidden Halo Pavé Set Ring

In a hidden halo setting, a ring of small diamonds surrounds the central stone between the claws of the setting, adding some extra sparkle to each element of the ring. This ring is also pavé set on the shank, meaning that small diamonds are set into the circumference of the band.

Ornament Inktober no. 17

I really enjoyed the Inktober challenge and this was my favorite drawing from the month. Been trying white ink for a new challenge, on grey toned paper. I've also challenged myself to draw more animals, so that's been fun. I can't remember drawing an elephant before, but my joke was that this one is ready for Coachella!

Long Winters Past

The other day I saw pictures of a Russian gala beginning of the 1900. The royalty was wearing extravagant beautiful clothing and they inspired this piece. Due to the card stock used and the subject I also decided to not use color but leave it at black, white and dark Grey. I would love feedback as I adore how it turned out. Is essence this to me was partially a study on the fashion of Russia in the 1900 as well as a chance to play around with 'colored' paper and how to use black and white to make most of what I had with me. I hope to make another piece like this again in the future, hopefully have it perhaps even more extravagant. This piece was made using. Gray cardstock, fineliner, uniball signo pen and a white pencil. © Iris de Wolf. CatiWorks
