Sailboats in harbor
1/4

Had a wonderful morning at Perry Lake painting this scene from the harbor. The soothing harbor sounds and a flock of pelicans taking a rest on their way to Texas were my companions. Swipe for a few detail shots. Also... a bonus fly for your nature enjoyment.

A is for Axolotl

Part of a personal project I'm working on right now, to experiment with new art styles and practice lettering skills by drawing animals. The color palette and symmetrical motifs in this one were inspired by the boats on Lake Xochimilco in Mexico, which is the last remaining place wild axolotls live.

Sketches Between Games

Super Nationals at the Gaylord—two rivers running through the lobby, actual boats gliding under glass ceilings, a nature center tucked between restaurants. Noise everywhere: kids, clocks, pawns and queens. Yet here, in the middle of it, a pause. A man leans back with the weight of waiting. A woman sits, at ease but still seeking. An empty chair remembers everyone who has rested there. In a place built to dazzle, what lingered with me was not the spectacle, but the silence. To draw is to honor the quiet within the clamor. thinking and seeing for better being — https://forming20.com/

Serene Waterscape in San Juan de Ulua, Veracruz

A serene coastal scene with a building structure in the foreground on a colorful blue water body, likely a canal or lagoon. In the background, there are boats floating on the water under a cloudy sky.

They Dropped Their Nets and Left Their Boat to Follow Jesus

This is a painting of a first century Galilean fishing boat, most likely the very type of boat used by Peter when he was called by Jesus to follow him. This illustration is part of a bigger mural I am working on, about the ministry of Jesus the Christ. If you notice, the boat is beached facing backward, with the fishing net coming from the back of the boat. This is to signify that Peter, like all the other apostles, except Matthew the tax collector, dropped their fishing occupation and followed Jesus, Who would make them the fishermen of men’s souls. Here is a truth about me as an artist. Two parts of this painting gave me trouble in carrying out this illustration. The fist was illustrating the ropes of the rigging. My first attempt was horrendous it took me a second try to get it right. I had to look up pictures of ropes on the Internet to overcome this challenge. The second was illustrating the rocks on the bottom of the Sea of Galilee and the reflections of the boat on the water. I must have made about five attempts until it finally clicked. Even when I kept looking at the reflections of boats on water, I could not make the breakthrough. In creating the kind of art that I do, it is very rare to find a model that meets all my requirement for what I am illustrating. So, it takes photos and imagination and the grace of God to create an illustration that looks better than a stick figure and communicates the message intended. So, I figure God has me go through these challenges to keep me humble because, without humility, God is not able to use our talents for His glory. (October 12, 2017)

The great wave

Iam always mesmerised by the print of the great wave by Hokusai, it is stunning, I just had to recreate it, it is so much more detailed and time consuming than it first seems, but loved having a go at. I know there are no boats, I didn’t want them, just sky sea and land!

Emory meets Florien

the mist hung heavy over scion's sound its waters lapping at the boats at the dock. Florien paced anxiously waiting to greet his betrothed. He had not slept an anxious knot curling in his stomach. If marrying Emory 'Lyrander' Lorelei was necessary for improving the future of Rekkenmark it is what he would do. He mustered a nervous smile sweeping into a chivalrous bow when Kukta cawed from her perch. "A pleasure to make your acquaintance Miss Lorelei. He extended a hand to help her down from the riverboat doing his best to ignore the mistrustful expression on her face.

Russian Church

Behind the Russian Church there is an abyss. The moss and the rubbish are slippery and jagged old tins glitter at the bottom. For hundreds of years they have piled up higher and higher against a long dark-red house without windows. The red house crawls round the rock and it is very significant that it has no windows. Behind the house is the harbour, a silent harbour with no boats in it. The little wooden door in the rock below the church is always locked. Hold your breath when you run past it, I told Poyu. Otherwise Putrefaction will come out and catch you. Poyu always has a cold. He can play the piano and holds his hands in front of him as if he were afraid of being attacked or was apologizing to someone. I always scare him and he follows me because he wants to be scared. - Sculptor's Daughter by Tove Jansson #dailydrawing #tovejansson

Little break by the strand!

Another pleasant illustration for today! Who does not like a little break at the strand without having any cars or boats or anything distracting around. Just some beautiful way to spend outside. And why not.
