The woods in my backyard. This has been a shit year so far, don't cha think? I get a few minutes relief by looking into the dark spaces between sunlit trees. Trying to see the forms. I'm hoping to get better at just that this summer.

7 year bear itch

Bear. Among the backwoodsmen of America there was a superstition that bears breed only once every seven years, and when they did this caused such a disturbance in the atmosphere that any cattle in the district which were about to calve would lose their young. I'm just experimenting with some very old kohinoor woodless colored pencils. It's spring upstate. One is my husband's garage, one is a very sunny spring day on an ATV trail behind my house.

Secluded Lake

I’m not sure what my inspiration for this is. I basically just started painting the sky and worked forward. It took me about an hour to finish.

Lake in the Woods

For any of you missing the outdoors: Picture yourself sitting on the edge of the lake, dipping your toes in the cool water. Feel the wind whisk around you as the sun goes down. You can hear the birds chirping as they settle in for the night. And if you listen close enough, you can hear the old pines whispering tales and stories of the forest long ago. :)

Magnolia grandiflora

Magnolias are spring harbingers in our garden, as well as our annual ornamental cherry display. Star magnolias are over, tulip magnolias are in full swing, and the occasional Southern magnolia is starting. Perhaps I should have done this with a gouache paint, but I used colored pencils. Oh well. Outlined after with various sizes of Pigma Micron pens. Our garden: www.edgewoodgarden.com
