Drawing Challenge

Bookmark Doodles Rd. 2

At Doodlers Anonymous we love books. We love the texture, ink, and creases of the printed word — the tactile deliciousness of thumbing, highlighting and devouring pages. We love books that weigh heavy in our hands. This showcase challenge is a tribute to traditional paper books and the act of reading. The two winners of this challenge (yes, there will be two!) will have their artwork fashioned into DA bookmarks. We challenge you to doodle the front-side of a bookmark, and we'll use the back to promote and credit you.

Hand-drawn ink on paper. This little man just realised that he is never alone thanks to his books.

Mister Hope Mister Hope

Mister Hope

A bookmark with my drawing of a giant-ish man strolling through the woods, reading stories to those around him. He is covered in moss, and mushrooms grow in his grassy cloak. Some of the books he reads are super small, so he needs his magnifiers to read the tiny words.

Books have been my friends since I was a child. The fantasy behind every story lets you escape from the gray reality and leads you into a world full of imagination and joy. And sometimes, the stories even feel as if they are real.

"To read is not a terribly uplifting affair..." The ambiguities of my drawings permitted multiple readings, from the critical to the complicit. While my works are abstract (horizontal en vertical lines), my artistry holds greater affinity with the creativity of something like a surveillance camera ; a being affected by its ever possible documentation, a sort of techno-occasionalism, made in koh-i-noor 8B on 160 gr of bristol (often 81 x 61 cm but don’t ask me why…). My drawings are documents of the real that reflects on what this reality may be, and how it might be changed, through the artist’s practice and the very (slow) process of making.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have the most votes, am I the winner?

Not necessarily. As stated in our guidelines, the public voting from the community helps bring the most popular art submissions to the top. Once the public voting is over, the editorial team at Doodle Addicts (along with the sponsor), will then vote internally from the top group of submissions.

I made a mistake, how do I fix or replace my entry?

You can delete and resubmit your entry anytime before the submission deadline. Just click on the “Replace Image” button below your submission (on the challenge page) to delete your original submission and replace it with your new one.

Am I allowed to have my fans, friends and/or family vote?

Yes, of course. We definitely encourage you to spread the word on your participation in this fun drawing challenge.

There are so many good ones! Can I vote for more than one?

Yes! You can mark one, two, five or all of them as your favorite.

What do you do about cheaters?

Any fake votes we catch will be removed. Let’s keep this fun everyone, the prize is just the cherry on top.

Still have questions?

Make sure to read the guidelines and the terms and conditions, most questions are answered there. If something is still not clear, feel free to email us and we’ll try to help.
